On 21st August a small band of merry model makers, myself included will be visiting the victory. my intent is to create a large reference library of pictures that everybody can get access to. i have a good digital slr with a good zoom so will be able to to take good photos of the spotting tops etc. if there are areas of the ship people would like detailed photos of please let me know and i will try and accommodate. i expect to take around 1000 to 1500 pics whilst their. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Can I sugest things such as the general fixtures & fittings, such as the boarding pikes at the base of the masts (I am going to try to make them if not supplied with the model), also the ships boats to get apropper view of their internal layout. All of that sort of thing. Bob

Nice idea, but be careful as they do not allow photography on deck or below without strict permission.? I was there 2 years ago, and was abruptly informed NO PHOTOGRAPHY ON BOARD!!!! Ship Builds on the go

I was there a few weeks ago & the only place you couldn't take photo's was down on the orlop deck at Nelson's shrine..mainly because there is an EXTREMELY expensive painting of the death of Nelson there & flash photography would damage it. thanks for all the response the ships boats certainly seem popular don't worry I will be taking close up detail of them. as far as photos go i have checked the weekend we are going is a free to roam and photography is allowed except at the spot where Nelson had his last kiss!! I was considering burning the pics onto disc and people could purchase for the cost of the disc and a stamp but i also thought i could create a photo dater base in the forum but not fully thought that through yet. please keep the photo wants coming “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

As Karl points out - there are many pics of the victory out there - but no-one seems to take pics of 'textures' or focus on smaller (seemingly insignificant) details (although the decking is rather an important feature, considering it covers a large area of the ship). So; whilst cataloging a large number of 'odd' photos might be tedious and lack dramatic impact, such photos would be useful. Schnellboots on back burner

i wont be doing an art shoot it will be a model building details shoot in close up unless on the top of a mast as i don't think the public are allowed up the rigging! “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

I bet if you got the attention of the guides, one of you could sneak up the rigging. Let's not have any excuses would Nelson have stood for anything less? Mike T

You could always upload them to a public photo site like Flickr. That's what I'll be doing when I visit the Victory in the next couple of weeks.

Personally i think the best idea is to keep the pics in the forum free for all. it would be good if admin could create a reference area. we could then have different threads for different areas such as rigging deck cannons etc. i will ask. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Bearing in mind the length of this build and the detailed effort being put in, may I suggest Admin makes representations to the Victory staff for you to take the photos in a semi professional way thus allowing you greater access. One can only ask. ArtfulBodger Previous Build: HMS. Bounty
