I am planning to go and visit the victory end of August/early September to take as many photographs as possible of all the detail we may need for our model. my plan is to create a photo archive for us all and post, probably in the build section of this forum. I was wondering if anybody wood like to join me. i would be traveling from Cheshire so i will be staying over night thus i would also have time for a social drinky poos i mean photo review session afterwards in the evening. I want to be booking my 5 star premier inn room in a couple of weeks so if anybody is interested let me know and we can organise a date that suits all. Yep I'm up for that. Got a holiday booked at end of August for 2 weeks. Would have to just confirm the dates but definately up for the photo review session after a hard day of research. Just one thing though I can't do 28th as it's my wedding anniversary and I would like to continue sleeping in the house, and not the shed, once I returned. I'll check later today (away at work still) with the boss, err I mean the wife, what the dates are and edit this post later on, when I get up......oh the joys of working nights note to self.......stop babbling when tired EDIT: Hi Jase the weekend before is good for me mate

Hi Jase I would have loved to join such a visit but the logistics of getting down to Portsmouth is not going to be easy in my case. I did have a good look at the Victory website earlier in the year and, forgive me if you know this already, but you need to be aware of the difference between free-flow tours of the ship and guided tours. If it is a free flow day I believe photography on board is permitted but NOT if it is a guided tour day. Victory VisitsI visited Victory many years ago and was gutted when I saw all the notices banning photography on board. You might like to bear that in mind when choosing your date to go. Assuming all goes well I will be most interested to see the archive you have created. In the meantime don't forget the photos that Mavrickandgoose took back in March. Victory PhotosFor others like myself who can't get down to the south coast I did post a suggestion that we met up in a similar way to what Jase is suggesting to visit HMS Trincomalee at Hartlepool. I hope you don't mind me mentioning that Jase, if anybody wants to get back to me about that one. David Gray and I were wondering about early August to coincide with the Tall Ships visit. Mike T

I would like to join you on the visit. I will stay at the Royal Maritime Club, which is in Queen Street, Portsmouth, just up the road from the dockyard. I have stayed there when attending courses at HMS. Nelson when I was a member of the RNXS.I can travel down by National Express who do trips to Portsmouth Hard, just outside Portsmouth Harbour Station. I am retired, so date would not be a problem apart from moving house by then ? Will play it by ear. TIS

ok i have checked out the weekends in august are all free to roam and photo so if we are all happy we will do it around the 21st August. question is what day? i like the idea of traveling down on the Friday then hitting victory when she opens at 10 on the Saturday, i have a 5-6 hour journey so may stop two nights and head back on the Sunday. your thoughts? also it would make sense to stay in the same place and possibly car share to the dockyard. all ideas I am open to suggestion. “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Jase, the dates in August would be fine. The Royal Maritime Club is just 5-minutes walk from the dockyard. I would be travelling down on the Friday also, that's if our move doesn't mess everything up. TIS

Yep good idea Jase I was looking at staying the 2 nights too...Friday and Saturday. I also looked into staying at the Premier Inn in SouthseaIt looks really close to dockyard. But if anyone has any other ideas or don't fancy paying Premier Inn prices then I'm open to suggestions. I looked into this hotel just cause I use them all the time for work and they are all the same so you know what your getting. But I'm easy ........

Just checked the prices and it's £180 for 2 nights inc buffet breakfast. It used to be called the Royal Naval Club and is situated in Queens Street, Portsmouth. It is literally minutes fro HMS. Victory, I have stayed there before in my RNXS days. How does the price compare with the Premier Inn? They have only three rooms left for the date mentioned. TIS

Hi, I was considering a visit myself during the summer hols (work at a school so have 6 weeks to fill!). Am only 40 mins drive away from portsmouth so any date would suit.

ok so it looks like a visit to the victory looks good for Saturday 21st August. there is space at the premier inn does not look far from the dockyard it would cost £166 for two nights (Friday Saturday)I am going to book my room this weekend. nearer the time we can organise meeting time and place for the Saturday or the Friday night depending on what times we get their. like i said my plan is to collect as much photographic material as i can after we can all dump our pictures in the forum. although i do plan to see the rest of the dock while i am their. thanks to you all for coming along it will make it a much more enjoyable day!! “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Excellent Saturday 21st it is then. I'll book my room in a min and I look forward to seeing you all there. I'll be travelling down on the Friday too Jase so we could meet up in the evening for something to eat in the restaurant next door and a beer. Bear with me if anyone posts something on here and waits for a reply as my laptop seems to have set sail up the swany.........without me and I have to keep barging in on my wife's laptop

You're on. Just booked a single room at £45 per night at the Royal Maritime Club, you should cancel your rooms and join me there , lot more convenient. It is a hotel, bar, restuarant, and very near HMS. Victory. So see you there. TIS
