Hi Y'all
I might be one of the oldest members to join this exclusive company!
I am nearly 77, but still in pretty good working order!!
I have been a model maker since childhood. I am at present, building a 1/32 scale Lancaster Bomber, to which I am adding as much extra working detail as possible. I hope to present it for raising funds, to the priest who married my wife and me, 56 years ago. He was a navigator with 617 Squadron!
I also enjoy making the excellent card models, which I download from fiddlersgreen.net (Well worth looking at!)
We are expecting our 15th Great Grandchild soon and I have not ben able to get any of the older ones interested in model making!!!
I am a retired person of many parts, having been an Aero/Space Design and Development Engineer in England and America , where I also trained as a volunteer, part time Paramedic I worked for Vickers Medical, designing and developing Medical Equipment, after returning to England in 1970. I then studied for a B.ED and taught Science, Maths and English for a while, before deciding that Teaching was not my bag! I was helping to nurse my mother-in law through cancer and mentioned my Paramedic training. It was suggested that I start training to be an S.R.N. !! A MALE NURSE!!! I did train for 4 years, but just prior to taking my finals, my spine was damaged in the badly co-ordinated lift of a 22 stone patient, so BYE-BYE Nursing career.

Hi goonbird, Welcome to the forum. Finally I've found someone else building a 1/32 Lanc. Is yours also the Hachette part build model ? Must admit lots of detail in the model, just don't know where I'm going to put her when she's finished.  Regards Steve

Thanks Guys (and GALS I HOPE!)for the welcome!
I am hoping to get plans to build a model of the Sail Training Ship, 'The Lord Nelson.' Our 52 year old daughter is joining the ship in Nova Scotia next year as a helper for the disabled members of the crew!
I want to give her a model and I have contacted both the designer and the owners to ask if they can supply plans, so here's hoping!
Any advice on Scratch Building, would be appreciated!
As for photos of the Lancaster! Not Yet! Later maybe. It is going very slowly at present, as I have recently had cataract operations on both eyes, so fine work is out for a while.

In my opinion I think you have joined the best forum available on the net and I would challenge anyone to find a forum full of more helpful people than this.... modellers on here are a fabulous bunch of people.... HI AGAIN!
Don't you lot ever sleep? I am up till 3 am, as my wife is a Street Pastor and is in town tonight, working at a church to help look after drunks and druggists that the police bring in.
I enjoy making both ships and aircraft, though being a retired aero/space engineer, aircraft are ONE of my passions. I will leave it up to you to decide what the others are!!! I am a fully paid up member of the 'Goon Show Preservation Society'!
Unfortunately, being a pensioner with nearly 15 Great Grandchildren, I can no longer afford the high costs of the 'parts models'. I usually buy the first copy only now. Plus D.I.Y. keeps me VERY busy, and I feel guilty if something needs fixing in the home and I spend time on model making!

Morning all and thanks for the welcome messages. I served my apprenticeship with Folland Aircrsft (Gnat), many years ago! One of the projects that I worked on, was a metal wind tunnel model of the Gnat. I did not build it, but I had to take it to be measured accurately. I then had to use Jeweller's Rouge to polish away some of the metal, as the dimensions had to be within a two tenths of a thou tolerance! Unfortunately, someone dropped it and a new nose had to be made and attached. Working in the Aircraft Industry has influenced all my own projects since, much to the frustration of my wife. Even D.I.Y. has to 'FLY' and I am never totally happy with the results. I also keep everything that looks like it might be useful,(also to the frustration of my wife), for model making. Blister packs for tablets, for example, are perfect for instrument bezels and small windows in aircraft.

Hi,At 82 and female i beleive that takes some beating,Hi Tom and other friends i have spoken to and helped me. I have one unrelated to modelling moan,get this,how many of you people relize that Amazon when you buy items through them that they charge vat on post and packing,making a fortune,this is illegal but they get away with it..Phoned them twice but they wont email me back,i wonder why.lol.Jean Bebbington
