Hi everyone, I've been building small model ships (such as the Swift, etc) for a few years now and have cruised through these forums from time to time and figured it was time I joined. A lot of the support and advice I've seen here is fantastic and everyone seems like a friendly bunch of model shipwrights. I've recently decided to try my hand at a much larger project and build AL's Cutty Sark, as this build will be rather special to me. My grandfather spent over 40 years building AL's model ships and saved the Cutty Sark till last as it was always his favourite. However, he passed away before he got very far in the build, and the kit itself ended up with a family member who won't finish it and has no interest in building models. With that in mind, I've gone and bought one for myself to build for him, and when finished (fingers crossed I CAN finish it to a reasonable standard) I'll mount it on a nice base and have a special plaque made up for it with his name to go in a display case. I've seen a lot of separate forum threads for specific builds but haven't seen the Cutty Sark on that list, so i'm just wondering is there a specific forum for this kit? Or should I perhaps just create a new thread somewhere specific to post on progress and upload photos? I haven't gone too far yet with the build, only having glued the bulkheads in place and shaped them, and done a little of the deck planking. I'm just about ready to make a start on the hull planking now, but have yet to figure out how I'm going to join them neatly as the planks themselves are only a bit over half the length of the ship and the bulkheads don't seem to have enough surface area to join 2 planks.
