Stage 11 - Reinforcement pieces, astern deck sections and deck planks.

Test-fit then glue the astern deck halves in place.

Continue to plank the deck, this time ending all planks to the very end.

Lightly sand the decking following the lie of the decking, then apply a coat of matt varnish to seal the deck.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the reinforcement fret.

Stage 12 - The middle section of the main deck, decking planks, and a bulkhead.

Cut three beams to span the knees of rib frames 7-9 then glue them in place.

Test-fit, then glue the middle deck section in place.

You can continue the deck planking as shown, though I will complete the planking of this entire deck in the next stage after the stern deck is added.

Cut the three transom pieces from the fret provide at stage 11 and retrieve frame 12 provided with stage 10.

Test-fit, then glue the rib reinforcement pieces on each side of rib 11 in the orientation shown. Then glue the lower reinforcement beneath the reinforcements just fitted.

Test-fit, then glue rib 12 onto the stern reinforcements and onto the end of the false keel.

This completes this stage, carefully store the remaining parts.

Stage 13 - Contains the poop deck and astern main deck halves.

Test-fit then glue both halves of the astern main deck in place.

Complete the planking of the entire deck, then cutaway any overhanging planking that has covered up the deck opening's.

Smooth deck with fine sandapaper then add the simulated plank nails at the joint of each plank. Then coat the deck with matt varnish to seal the deck.

Cut beams for the upper knees of ribs 9,10 and 11 then glue each into position.

Take the bulkhead from Stage 12, mark a centre line then cover the bulkhead with planking.

Test-fit then glue glue the bulkhead to the forward face of rib 9. If the bulkhead extends above the beam, sand it level then fix in place.

Store the remaining planking and poop deck for use at the next Stage.

Stage 14 - Contains stern false keel reinforcements, hardwood deck edging strips and deck planking strips.

Remove the false keel reinforcement pieces from the parts fret and sand any splinters smmoth.

Apply glue to one side of each reinforcement in the orientation shown in the step photos, and fix each on either side of the false keel, placing them flush with the ribs in front of them.

Remove the remaining piece from the parts sheet received with Stage 11. Sand any splinters then glue it in place at the bottom of Rib 12.

Take the deck from Stage 13 and mark a line along the centre of it, then test-fit the deck on top of the ribs and make any adjustments necessary, and level the top of the stern transom bulkhead so that its top flows with the tops of the deck beams. Then glue the deck in place, ensuring it is seated on each of the beams.

Plank the deck, working from the centre line out to the sides. Plank one side, and then remove any planking that extends over the edges or covers the holes along the centre line. Repeat for the other side, and when the glue is dry, carefuly sand the deck and mark the nails.

Measure the width of the opening in the central section of the main deck, then cut a length of 2x4mm hardwood strip to match this length. Glue this strip in place, with the top edge aligned with the surface of the deck.

Follow the same process to fit a further three strips along the other sides of the central opening of the main deck.

Repeat the process to fit hardwood strips along the three edges of the poop deck just fitted. Start with the single strip across the centre, add the two shorter lengths afterwards, and cut them flush with the edge of the deck when the glue is dry.
Cut two strips to fit on the front edges of the poop. They should cover the ends of the two shorter lengths fitted in the previous step and project over the edges of the deck by about 2mm.

Coat the poop deck planking and edging strips just fitted, with matt varnish.

Carefully store the reamining wooden strips.

Stage 15 - Contains Gun port panel strips and dummy gun mounts.

Remove the two gun port panel strips from the fret and smooth the cut edges.

Using the long file, smooth (fair) the ribs to curve from the bow to the centre of the hull in the areas highlighted in the Step F photo, above the steps at the side of the ribs. The arrows in the Step G photo highlight the difference between ribs that have been shaped and those that haven’t. Note that the fairing is only above the steps at the side of the ribs. The middle section of the hull doesn’t require much shaping.

To determine if the fairing is correct, place the left gun port panel strip along the step in the ribs and check that it fits flush with the ribs.

Now shape the edges of the astern ribs as shown in Step J, in the same way as those in Step H.

This completes this session.

Carefully store the gun port panels and dummy gun mounts in a labelled bag until need.

This completes Pack 3

Pack 4 (Stages 16 - 20) are cross-section parts which I will store for assembly at the end of the ship construction. I will therefore be continuing with the construction of Pack 5 (stages 21-25) next.
