Having finished the Victory I have now started the Hummer

The difference in the build is quite marked. The Victory required a considerable amount of "manufacture of parts" plus a lot of time to construct the monthly parts. Is was difficult at times to keep up with the deliveries.

Not so with the Hummer. Being mainly constrction of parts supplied I have found it easier to keep up to date with deliveries inso far as i now have some spare modelling time ( Thats construction not the cat walk variety)

To fill in I have purchased from Cornwall Models a Roman Catapult kit

The does require some manufacturing of parts. However the wood supplied is of the laser cut plywood type. Having purchased some Oak planks to construct my Victory display case I am using offcuts to replace the parts supplied with the kit. Using the parts supplied as templates I am replacing where I can with Oak

Pictures of parts constructed so far attached and more will follow as I procede

As always constructive comments are welcombe

Hi Gil, Cool

Looks like a nice detailed kit.

Keep the pics coming, I like some of these smaller builds.

Finished this build

Must say the "instructions" are basic to say the least
Mainly a series of photos "It should look like this" without any hint as how to get there.

As I mentioned before I have replaced most of the components with Oak using the provided parts as templates

Am now going to build the Norman Catapult. If it carries on like this I will need a bigger house.

Now going to start on the Norman Catapult

Picture of Parts attached

Will add more as the build proceeds. Not sure if I am going to use Oak for this one will have to check what offcuts I have left

Is it me or can anyone else see Homer Simpson in the picture?

No not a job lot. Decided to pre-empt the socks and jumpers for Xmas by buying my own presents. Did let the wife wrap them

BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

The Roman Catapult does work to a large degree.
Both the Handles that tension the cables at the base of the Catapult arm work with the ratchet holding the cable nice and tight. However I constructed the chassis before I installed the windlass

What I should of done was attach the windlass to its axle before installing it, making sure it would turn freely in the holes in the chassis and then put it in place when gluing the chassis together. That way I could have got the ratchet working for this as well as the catapult arm. As it is the windlass is quite stiff on its axle and will turn OK and still hold the cable that pulls the arm back to its firing position. The stones are glued in place so I will not be firing it.
Hope that makes sense.

Norman Catapult

Phase One

As with the Roman Catapult I have decided to replace most of the supplied parts with one made fron Oak

Using the parts supplied as tenplates I have duplicated the components

Phase Two will start shortly with me starting the construction. Having already built one of the Mantua kits I am prepared for the somewhat sparse building instructions

Some pictures attached with more to follow as the build preceeds

The Norman Catapult progresses. Taking a bit longer than the Roman catapult as there are more fiddly bits and the instructions are as poor for this build as the previous catapult.

It does not help when the pictures in the instructions seem to differ from page to page. Still gives me a chance to improvise

up todate picture attacheed. Will add more later

The Quality is not too bad for laser cut ply but I have replaced the majority of the components with Oak Parts using the supplied parts as templates. Takes longer but no painting and a better finish. More of a challenge to
