Hi Folks,

Im planning to start my build now that I have a few issues to get stuck into.
Before I start, I just wanted to get some recommendations of what glue and other products to buy to aid with the assembly. From the searches I've done online, I've made a list of products that seem to be recommended and thus I'm planning to buy the following:

Revell - Contacta Pro Modelling Glue
Microscale - Micro Set
Microscale - Micro Sol
Microscale - Liquid Decal Film

I dont really trust my abilities to clear coat over the top once assembled, so Im not sure if the above products are suitable for an un-clear coated model?

If anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be very much appreciated as I'm very new to this.

Many thanks in advance!

BigGrin Hi CBR
I think the decals are of the vynal stick on variety for the racing version not sure if its the same for the display version
As for glue a lot of people used Wilkinsons own brand of plastic glue with few problems. Hope this helps

Oh right, so they are actually stickers rather than the type that need to be soaked in water first? That’s good to know, I think I got a bit ahead of myself and remember looking at the Webber Build Diary, iirc the decals for the helmet aren’t stickers, probably due to the shape which makes sense.

As a side question, I’m planning to put the stickers on before assembly as I think it'll be easier with pieces I can lay flat. I shouldn't run into any problems doing it this way should I?

Thanks for your help, prevented me making a potentially big mistake!

BigGrin Hi CBR
Your correct about the helmet decals being of the normal type so the microscale stuff will be of help here as for the stick on decals you can do them any way you find comfortable but im guessing these wont show up untill near the end of the build. Some people are using CA to glue the front fins together just be carefull and leave in the open overnight to prevent the fogging that sometimes occurs

Having just checked the instructions of the pack Im expecting any day now, it does include the helmet, so Im not getting too ahead of myself after all!
Just placed my order for the bits, may try testing them of a cheap model before I use them on this.

Thanks again for the advice, looking forward to getting started!

Hi CBR.
One of the ways to put stickers on is to smear a blend of water and washing up liquid onto the part with a brush ( so its easy to get in the right position )then put the sticker onto the part and dab dry with a piece of tissue and wait for the water and washing up solution to evaporate.
With micro sol and set i think that can only be used on decals ( water slide ).
Best regards.

Issue 19 - Contains a pre-painted Mark Webber helmet and decal set.

The helmet decals are waterslide decals which are quite delicate once released from the backing paper.

Carefully cut around each decal as needed. Holding a decal with tweezers, immerse it in lukewarm water and soak for 20-30 seconds until the decal slides easily on its backing paper when gently touched (do not allow the decal to float free of its backing paper). Then quickly place decal in the location indicated on the helmet, by carefully sliding it from the paper, then discard the backing paper.
Use a tissue or a cotton bud to remove the excess water once the decal is in place. A cotton bud can also be used to gently push out any trapped air pockets or bubbles from beneath the decal.

To help the decals conform to the curvature of the helmet, you may find it helpful to use a decal softening solution.

Carefully follow the manufacturer instructions, but in general soak the decal and position it in the usual way, then brush the softener onto the decal. The decal will start to soften, and will break if you try to move it. Use a cotton bud or tissue to remove excess liquid but do not touch the decal itself. The decal surface will wrinkle, but don’t worry - this is normal and it will flatten as it dries out.
If necessary, you can re-apply softener to remove any wrinkles that haven’t entirely disappeared and allow to dry for 24 hours before handling.

Once you have applied all of the decals, set the helmet aside for 24 hours to allow them to fully dry.

You can opt to gloss the helmet to seal/protect the decals, but be sure to use an 'aqueous' gloss product, (a solvent based product may damage the paint/decls).

This completes this stage of the assembly.

Thanks for the tip Mark 2, will definitely try the soapy water technique for the stickers.

Thanks Supaheli, I'd read that hence my questions, I'd never heard of softening solution prior to that. After a bit of searching it seemed like Microscale was a popular choice, often recommended to use both the Set and Sol products.

Anyway, I shall know for myself soon, awaiting delivery so I can crack on. Received my 3rd pack now which includes Seb's helmet and decals, so figures crossed I get some time to do it in the next few weeks.

"MR HOBBY GUNZE SANGYO MARK SOFTER DECAL"
"MR HOBBY GUNZE SANGYO MARK SETTER DECAL" Flea bay as cant get them in uk no more.
These are the best ones for Japanese Decals as they are made from different material.
I have used these with great results.
