Hi Stevie. Beautiful looking clean build you have coming on there! Well done!  I know what you mean about the fiddly netting! I was fortunate in mine, being able to scratch build the whole thing off the ship including the lashings for the nets and then super gluing the finished item on the bulwark tops in one go. The only thing I had to do ' onboard' was to add the hammocks themselves. Keep at it though, you'll have a super masterpiece at the end!! Thankyou Robin, I did pause for thought once last night during this work to consider what it must have been like for you on a smaller scale, but now you have let your secret out  I had these arrive today from cmb, Im going to replace the barrels supplied with the de ag kit with these. Also, the de ag vic does not supply cathead crowns so these should do the trick, they are the jotika ones and at 1/72 scale but still look fine stevie_o attached the following image(s):

I like those crowns! Those nets are very fiddly even off the ship at 1/100 scale!  I still have to make up those crowns too, nobody thought to make after sales ones in my scale!  I might end up trying to mould some milliput ones with a darning needle... (suppose I should be just glad the DelPrado saw fit to include the ruddy catheads in the instructions!!) Hi Stevie, top class work as usual and I just wonder if you have had a look at Bernd's build. He had a wonderful solution for the hammock nets that seamed to work very well and I think he got his wife to do the sewing up..... clever man eh!!!!!....  .. His build is superb though.... Regards Alan

Robin Hi Robin, The crowns are 5.9mm at the widest part, my catheads are 6mm square section so they do fit on but should be a little smaller really as they are 1/72 not 1/84 - They look fine though and Im sure no one will notice Good luck with making these for yours anyway. The 3d printing guy I posted a link about on here once has since mailed me saying he can do any castings for the vic at any scale so you could check that out. Steve

Regards Alan Thanks Alan, I love Bernd's build, top class and I am now seriously looking into doing the hammocks the same way as he did, they do look very neat, it will take longer but I think will look better. Hello everyone, well, after an infuriating week on the hammocks, cranes and nets it's all complete - has to be the most fiddly and annoying job of the build so far  I didnt use Bernds method in the end, just stuck to the magazine instructions with only a slight deviation on the forcastle cranes, I hadn't left quite enough room on the capping rail after i installed the timberhead rails ages ago. So, I removed them and recessed the cranes into grooves which gave more space. It was because my rails were a mm or so too wide. All ok now though - there were in total 107 hammocks to roll up and tie Better than 800+ though for the full crew! Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):

Looks good but I wonder if it would be more simple to wrap a rod in the material rather than doing all that rolling? i havent looked at iy yet myself but i think it could save time without effecting the finished look. not much help to you though sorry does look great jase “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”

But the rolling up wasn't really that time consuming, not as much as the rope wrap and tying was. The main part that was tricky was sewing the nets to the cranes, not my strong point Cheers Steve

Ian Thankyou Ian, appreciate the nice comment, - I did a couple more bits today, painted and fitted the caldercraft 1/72 scale cathead crowns which seem to look fine and not overscale. Also fitted the barrels a little early but am trying to get all the deck finished before starting the shrouds. The stern gallery top decorations are now done also as these came in a much later issue to the other decorations. That's it for now. The bowsprit has to be permanently fitted next and seeing as I don't yet have the bench room I will have to get a large shelf sorted out to go above my work desk Steve stevie_o attached the following image(s):
