I may be missing something here but this section is locked down and does not allow us to open new topics to share with those who might also be interested in the issue raised.

there is no doubt that the model is value for money and that it will be both challenging and fun to build. i understand some people feeling that they may have been duped but the fact is this. it is common practice to supply a basic kit and then up grade, if you choose, with after market add ons. for example i just spent £40 on a hood model then another £40 on wooden decks for it another £30 on photo etch to replace much of the plastic in the basic kit, £15 on paint and £10 on glue and brushes. personal choice i could have built straight from the box. not everybody will want to spend months putting on out of scale copper plates on their hull, that is why it is an add on i noticed that most people voted for 90 figures with the kit does it not accrue to people that to achieve that they may have to drop something else!! at the end of the day de agostine have a declared cost and have to make a profit, it is not fair that they we demand more and more from them for our money. we are getting a good deal with the cost spread out time we all took a look at how negative we are getting.

I can't remember off hand where I saw it, but someone had used a chesnut stain to mimic the copper & it looked great. The planking helped to give it a plated effect.

God my spelling is bloody awfulBlushing

2. We are offering the copper plating for the hull which is not available in the base kit
8. ... you can choose to add a copper bottom ...

To clarify this I asked: Perhaps Admin could clarify for me.

Will there be an option to copper clad the Victory and will the cladding be supplied as part of one of the issues?

Mike T[/quote]

Admin Here,

We will be supplying a copper bottom kit. We have been researching the best way in which to do it, and have been waiting on feedback from our experts on this, plus other experienced model builders we have consulted.

We understand that not every modeller will want the copper effect on their ship, so it will be supplied as an optional issue somewhere before the end of the planking, but before the rigging gets you all tied in knots!. This is our plan.

We favour the supply of copper tape, as this appears to be the best way by far (other than painting it copper).. for the best possible finish for your ship's hull, and ease of supply of materials. We have viewed many ships where using copper panelling has resulting in some rather unsightly buckling owing to the extremities of our weather and proximity to central heating.

As soon as we have more specifics we will of course update you.

Thanks

Admin

Admin

As I started this thread publicly I feel I must respond publicly.

I assume that the specifics you refer to will include an additional cost for those who choose to order the 'additional' issue. I trust this information will be available as soon as possible so that we can compare the cost of the tape as provided by you with alternative solutions and that the build will not be held up for too long. I still think this is at variance with the impression I gained from your reply which was part of my quote.

I must also say that I think it is a pity that some acknowledgement of my original request didn't come sooner and might have avoided a lot of additional input from forum members which was not directly relevant to the issue under discussion.

Having said that, I do acknowledge that the majority of us are getting the materials on time and complete, the magazine is certainly much better than some instruction booklets I have tried to use previously, especially with Tomick's addiitonal material on-line and in general the forum provides a wonderful resource and sense of community which I am glad to be part of.

Mike

i think Adins post and a previous post they made re this subject quite clearly state that the copper kit is part of what they are providing. i also wish to copper the bottom of my ship and i am not paying any extra for this lol.

good luck with your build

having just re re read Admins post it appears the copper bottom is an optional extra mag, i DO NOT THINK SO ADMIN this was clearly advertised on both the dvd and the adds and as far as i am concerned this is not an option but part of the KIT, if this is not so i have a feeling you will be paying back an awful lot of money to people. and risk being sued for false advertisement. My apologies mike i see where your coming from now.

Thanks to Admin for the reply, BigGrin

I intend to do the copper plate and await the information as it arrives from DeA. In the mean time, Its readily available on well known shopping sites and model shops, so I will just see what price it comes in at before I do anything else. BigGrin

I think ALL of you have a valid point.
What we want is no moaning/fighting. More clarity on supplies/extras.
Speedy response time, (even just to say we are researching the question). As for the copper bottom, after reading all this thread Im still not sure how much the extra will cost us if anything. All I know is that copper tape will be used not panelling. A bit vague Admin. I was bitterly disappointed after learning that not all the cannons will be supplied. Again somebody made a great point of not wanting to build 100+ cannon in the first place. This made me feel a little better. My problem is with the scale. Sometimes it is off a bit from the 1/84 scale. i.e. anchor ring and blocks for the cannons. The replacement blocks I bought were only a few pence (not bothered there) but I hope different items dont need replacing. As for when other people look at it finished, and not notice the scale issues and just say "WOW looks great". I WILL KNOW. Im not building this just for others to look at. Its for me first. And each time you see a mess up or a different issue. Others will not. Trust me. Even when we all finish this, we will all moan about our own workmanship and think "wish I could do it all again". Thing is none of us can afford it all again, and want it perfect, first time, even me. A total noob. So we try and pre-empt (not sure if thats right) all this by ensuring that we can only blame ourselves, therefore we want absolute perfection from Deagos. A little unfair if you ask me. I think this is the reason why peps are going a bit mad.
Well thats my 2 pence worth.

Well said Piot007 ThumpUp
I would have liked the 100 Cannons, it would have given me something to do, instead of listening to the wife go on about someone having an affair on Private Practice? Bloody soaps!!!! BigGrin I sat there for 20 mins waiting for some juicy gossip, but to find out it was a fictional character, well!!!Huh

PS if we are going to be using copper tape, you might want to invest in a pin wheel, this is used to create the effect of rivets, you can get them from some hobby shops, or a tailor shop.
