Hi fellow builders, The manufacturer of tools, assecories, etc for wooden ships appears to be Artesania Latina (Spain) and I have a feeling they are also the manufacturers of our "free" toolkits. The local distributor is Jeffrey Stein Sales. They have a complete range of tools and I have just bought assecories like wooden barrels (to simulate gun powder barrels?) and buckets to liven up my ship (one day when it is complete). I also bought some cotton thread, as the thread supplied with Victory's anchor, to simulate the steel banding, appears to be too short. I would suggest you guys try and obtain a catalogue, as they have numerous items and also sell kits of ships. Go to Jeffry Stein's website, www.jeffreystein.co.za and then to "dealers" to find a supplier near you. Hope this helps.

They only deal with dealers. You need the product code handed to the shop owner who will order the part for you from them. At least the linked helped me to locate more hobby shops close to me. Thanks for the link. "Rather try and fail than had failed to try".Sovereign of the Seas Model Space forum: Marcel's build

Good Morning Jix Models in Pretoria also stock parts, but do not have a wide variety, but are willing to order whatever you require. I have come across a lot of Hobby shops that do not have or have little ship building components. They mainly cater for trains, aircraft and R/C. My personal feeling is that model ship building is not very big in SA. Just my two cents worth. Cheers Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Andre, I do believe you are correct. If the number of SA builders reflected on this forum is anything to go by. I suppose it is up to us to tell people what a rewarding hobby this is. I personally wished I had discovered it many, many years ago. For me it is one of the greatest stress relievers out. Hi to all I have discovered a store that caters for crafts and arts, but has some tools that can be used for shipbuilding - a large collection of Proxxon and Dremel tools, as well as others parts. The store is: Jimmets in Lynwoodridge Mall. Cheers Current Build: HMS Victory
