Welcome to the forum Steve, I too am subscribed to the Pearl but will be collecting issues for a long while yet, at least until my Victory is done. If you are going to build yours as you go then why not start a diary of the build, this way it will be very easy for others to advise and give you tips as they will see your build develop. Good luck with it anyway Steve

Hello again all thanks for your kind welcome, no doubt I will be picking people's brains with the pearl build[ biggrin] . I am just in the process of buying new bits and bob's of gear. the only thing I kept hold of were the citadel paints. what is the would be the best wood glue to use with MDF I have some Evo-stick wood adhesive is that ok regards Steve when I had an MRI scan all they found was an IOU instead of a brain

Hi Steve I think the evo-stick wood glue is fine, I remember a mdf job I did a while back and used Titebond wood glue and that was also fine. The main thing to remember with mdf is that it is very porous and absorbent. If you are painting with acrylic paints then the mdf has to be sealed first or it will expand. There are such things as mdf sealers available from hardware shops. Steve

Hi Steve thanks for the advice I have used the Evo to glue the first parts together could not help myself .I understand about the mdf needing to be sealed, I have taken Mr T's advice and have ordered some Rustin's MDF sealer my only concern is sanding the MDF down I don't have a dedicated work space, I only have just pc desk in bedroom or fold down dining room table(if boss allows me to use it) regards Steve when I had an MRI scan all they found was an IOU instead of a brain

Same here with regard to workspace, just a large pc desk. I do have a garage though so all heavy sanding is done out there Get yourself a cordless rechargable hoover to keep the boss happy, really is a "must have" item. Steve

I may have to make a comment that the old handheld has had its day and that we need a new more powerful one . I am more worried about the MDF dust, as we have twin 2yr old granddaughters that come over a lot during the week. I may have to wait till the weather improves before sanding the frame down I will post pics soon just need to make a photo bucket account. regards steve when I had an MRI scan all they found was an IOU instead of a brain

Nice pics Steve, yes - take care with the mdf sanding and take all necessary precautions as with any wood dust. This may well be the "relatively safe" european standards mdf or it could be the eastern mdf containing the formaldehyde binding agent. There are no warnings in the mag though which is strange. Good luck with the build and if this is to be your diary then you will need to edit the title and have Mt T move it to the build diaries section or just start a new one - you will earn yourself a medal in the process .
