Looking great, the idea for the hammock nets is very good and one I will be using also. When I see all those rigging ropes hanging everywhere it makes me nervous of whats ahead for me, I have never rigged a ship before! Steve

Good Day All Thanks for the comments. I am finally back in civilisation as I have been in Mali since August. So far I have started doing the rigging and hoisting of sails, fitted gun port lids and installed the dummy canons. Will post photos in the next post. I have learnt something the hard way: I hoisted the Mizzen sails only to discover that the sails were switched around and the ropes were glued onto the batons. Out with the acetone to soften the glue and remove the ropes. Lesson Learnt: DO NOT glue ropes until you are satisfied that everything is in the correct position. Before I forget: Compliments of the season to all the Model Space members. Regards Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Thanks for all the comments. Today i have started with the ratlines, after doing the rest of the topgallant shrouds. My count for today is 313 clove hitches. Lets see what tomorrows numbers will be. TIP: when attaching the brass rod, do not cut it into lengths as it is difficult to work with. Keep the full length, attach the shrouds by glueing the first to the end of the rod and then the last one 13mm away. Once the glue has dried, cut off the rod and continue attaching the rest of the shroud ropes. Cheers Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Good Day I have finished the ratlines, just under 2800 clove hitches made. Completed the rigging and hoisting of the sails. Busy with the gaff/driver booms. Will post photos later today. TIP: Try not to place the hammocks in position as per magazine. Make them and only place in position after the rigging has been done. They get knocked loose when getting in to tie the lines to the batons at the masts. Cheers Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Good Morning from a wet Pretoria I was busy attaching the Gaff/driver booms and to my amazement, I did not receive all the beads to do the parrels. Lucky for me my wife does crafting and I found some beads amongst her stuff. So, if you require beads, go to a craft shop taking a sample with. One thing I notice, the magazine calls for 6, add about two more and then it will look better as it leaves some spaces. Cheers, I am off to a caravanning weekend. Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Andre That is a fantastic build you have yourself there. If I get come half as close to your finish I will be a very happy chappy. I am only at the stage of having the frames together and have just finished some decking in the area they would have you draw the planking. Weather in this country is terrible at the moment and it's stopping me getting out to start fairing the frames - no workshop so cannot do that in doors. You posts are very inspirational and enjoy following your build. Regards Tony Happy Modelling

Hi All Photos of the build so far. Ratlines are completed - <2800 clove hitches made. 8 sails attached. Preparing to hoist the fore main sail. One thing that I have learnt so far: Patience, patience, patience and work slowly. It takes about 2 days working on and off to attach one yard with all the rigging. Cheers Andre Current Build: HMS Victory

Looking good Andre, patience is really the name of the game. Not too far behind you with sales. Jealous of your caravanning weekend, I am a caravaner as well and am chomping at the bit to go out again. Shattered the front window of my Penta when I moved, bought a new one and just need the time to refit then we will be back on the road. Hi All Thanks for all the replies. Here is a method that I use when attaching the sails to the yards. 1. Measure the length of the yard. 2. Measure the length of the sail. 3. Subtract the two from each other and divide by 2, and measure the answer from each end of the yard and make a pencil mark. 4. Tie a length of thread to the earring, place the edge of the sail on the pencil mark and tie the thread to the point of the yard. 5. Repeat this on the other side. 6. Tighten each edge whilst keeping the sail edge on the pencil mark. This method makes it easier to sew the sail to the yard. Hope this tip works for you. Cheers Andre Current Build: HMS Victory
