Hello all, A respected forum member has convinced me to post this diary of the construction of a Blohm und Voss BV141, a somewhat unusual WW2 aircraft. The kit is designed as a rubber band powered flying model. I will be building it as a non flying model, so weight will not be a major concern. I got the plans from an American company, A A Lidberg model plans service, (www.aalmps.com). They have some other WW2 model aircraft, including some rare and unusual ones. This will tend to be a somewhat irregular diary as I have other projects on the go with a higher priority. The first job was to trace the wings and fuselage, after which the wing centre section was built, and a start made on the crew compartment. Regards, Tony. Tony C attached the following image(s):

Hello all, Many thanks for the interest and compliments. Trev the wing span is just under 29inches, as for covering, I haven't made up my mind yet, I am thinking along the lines of 0.5mm strip wood or something similar. Suggestions welcome.
Regards,
Tony.

Hi Tony, Thanks for the info 28in wing span this will be a good size build,as for the covering I have recently finished my own Balsa version of the Zero but because it was so weak in construction I have covered the hole plane in 1/32 sheet balsa which has made it very strong and not easily broken, good luck with the build watching with interest. Hello all, I had a few spare hours so I have built the outer wing sections, and fitted the fuselage supports to the wing centre section. I have also done a little more to the crew compartment. Trev, many thanks for the balsa sheet covering idea, I may just take it up. Regards, Tony. Tony C attached the following image(s):

Hi Tony, Nice work, I can clearly see your skill level by your very clean and accurate work, I know with this type of build you have to think before you stick great stuff Tony. Regards Trev. Work in progress: Tombstone (Scratch) - San Francisco 2. -The Mayflower ( scratch by plan).

Hi Tony looking great and building up fast as for the covering balsa is a good idea but there is also the very thin ply wood available, just an idea regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Andy, Thanks for the suggestion, 1/32" ply might be a better solution than balsa, I will have to give it some thought. Regards, Tony.

Hello all, I have done some more work on the crew compartment, including making a pilot's seat control column and instrument panel. I copied the control column from a He111. The pilot's seat etc can be seen in the photos. The window surrounds have been fitted and need painting. Covering will have to be a mix of 0.4mm ply and 1/32" balsa. I bought a strip of 1/32" balsa but it will not go round the curve at the bottom of the crew compartment without splitting. I will get a sheet of 0.2 x 1.2m x 0.4mm ply, then use balsa when that runs out. Regards, Tony. Tony C attached the following image(s):

Hello all, A little progress made. The fin and rudder are made and skinned with 1/32" balsa, I was pleasantly surprised how strong they were. The tailplane and elevator are made and skinned. The next job was to have been covering the wings, but I have had a bit of a disaster with the crew compartment. I was fixing the covering when it got knocked to the floor, and the port side got pretty well smashed up, and some damage was done to the stbd side. I am in the process of making new sides from 1.5mm basswood sheet, so the net result will be a stronger crew compartment. Hopefully more next week, (disasters permitting) Regards, Tony. Hi Tony Looking good and sorry to hear about the disaster, it also impressed me when a built an aircraft with skinned surfaces how strong they become with relativley thin skins like balsa regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hello all, Repairs have been carried out on the crew compartment, most of the port side was replaced, and above the wing opening on the stbd side. The wing has been skinned, I used 0.4mm ply on the centre section upper and lower surfaces The outer wings were surfaced with ply on the upper surface and 1/32" balsa on the lower surface. The fuselage has been skinned with 1/32" balsa, with just the engine remaining to do. The main undercarriage legs have been made, and will be fitted when the fuselage and crew compartment have been glued in place. Earlier additional aerofoil sections were made and glued in place on the outer wings at the correct dihedral angle to make a stronger joint. The next job will be glazing the crew compartment. I intend to fit the glazing before fitting the skin above the wing openings, hopefully this will make for a neater finish. More next week all being well. Regards, Tony.
