A big hello from a water logged Somerset........I have just joined the Forum having started my first part-work, the Black Pearl for my wife Ann(who is funding the project, and is a big Pirates/Johnny Depp fan)...We live in Stoford, a small village just south of that throbbing metropolis Yeovil with our 19 year old moggie, Moogie......I retired 4 years ago having done my time in the Royal Navy, 22 in the Fleet Air Arm and another 11 on the Royal Navy Historic Flight,(hence the user name)......I currently volunteer at the British Heart Foundation, Furniture & Electrical shop in Yeovil........I have been a modeller since I was 9, mostly scale plastic kits, but since retiring I have taken up r/c boating and find it most relaxing too......I am about halfway through a 1/200 Nichimo Yamato that will be on the water later this year....I also used to do 'N' gauge Japanese model railways and I am going to subscribe to the D-51 soon......I look forward to taking an active part in this Forum...............Tony

Hi Tony, Welcome to the forum
You will certainly find the D51 a great build and i look forward to see you around the forum and the progress on your builds.
You might find this interesting...
My Grandfather and his two brothers were all in the Navy. My grandfather was on a destroyer with Hood when the Bismarck sunk her and his brother, My great Uncle was On the KGV when Bismarck was sunk. We all know the role of the Fairey Swordfish in that series of events. later My great uncle served on flat tops running to the USSR and his job was servicing and maintaining Swordfish. I worked for a while at WFEL what was Fairey Engineering , my office was in the old dope shop where the swordfish had been built. Thus the Fairey Swordfish is my favourite all time aircraft, so much so My daughters name is spelt Daisey the 'ey' coming from Fairey.

Thank you one and all for the warm welcome, it is appreciated....
jase, that's very interesting, you certainly have some history there.......I got to know a lot of the "Old boys" who flew the Stringbag during the war and they were a fascinating bunch, of course a lot of them have "Passed over the Bar" since I retired, but I will never forget their modesty and humility.......I can agree that the Swordfish was and is a remarkable aircraft and share your love for it.......I have over 250 flying hours in the MkI W5856 and the MkII LS326, and I wouldn't have missed one of them...............

One of my favourite pictures of my favourite aircraft, LS326, over the Liver building during the "Festival of the Sea" in 1999....... That's me in the rear cockpit............. This is the MkI W5856 over the Lake district a few years later... Just to let you know there ARE 4 wings......... Can you see why they were called "Stringbag"?? Are you looking at me??....... Tony

Hi Tony What a top experience to have had but I was under the impresion that she got the name stringbag as it was a term from the 30's to say she was a jack of all trades in the navy being used for more than one job regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
