Hi all

Thought I would finally start a build diary. I'm very far behind as I started the build in 2010 but due to buying first house and the birth of two boys I haven't done any work on the ship.

I've finally started to work on the model again but progress is slow. I've always kept looking at other build diaries and read she good advice.

Welcome again Baz!

As Alan says it's not a race (afterall look at my DelPrado! she came out some years before the DeAg and I'm still on the hull myself!)BigGrin
If the rest of her goes as well at that launch looks you'll have no problems! Cool
Look forward to watching your progress and best of luck!

Thanks for the comments.

I try to do a few planks every night but the way I bend them means I can only do a few rows at a time. I chucked out the plank bender straight away and soak them in boiling water for about a minute, clamp them to the hull then finally glue and nail once they dry. Takes awhile but seems to work well for me

Welcome to the forum Baz. Do what works for you that's the name of the game. As the others have said just enjoy it, however long its takes.

Hi Baz
Don't worry about being behind. I started my build in 2010 and still only as far as the beak-head detail. Well done with the launch, that looks the biz!!
You say you threw the plank bender away! Was it because it kept cutting through the planks rather than bending them?
I had the same problem, but if you can recover it from the bin, the answer is too take out the blade and reverse it so that the blunt side is used. Then, combined with the soaking, it makes for a reasonably usable tool.
Good luck and happy building
David

Hi Baz. If you have recovered your plank bender another option is to insert a screw which will control the width of your jaw. I have attached pics to show you how I adapted mine. It is not a new idea, I saw it on one of the other posts and it works like a dream for me. It might help.

Thanks for the tips with the plank bender. I just couldn't get away with it, I looked at the electric plank benders but found I get good results with boiling water. Just takes a little longer

Well I've finally finished the upper planking. I'm quite happy with the results as it looks like it shouldn't take too much sanding, apart from the bow for some reason just couldn't get the same result.

I'm planning on leaving the rest of the gun ports until I planked the entire hull

BigGrin Hi Baz
That's some nice planking there , don't kick yourself too hard about the bow I think everyone gets problems there until you have done a couple of ships this way. Keep the pics coming

That's a nice looking piece of planking there, Baz. ThumpUp

I'll be rightly chuffed if I get a similar result when I tackle the Surprise planking.
