I am planning on using solid wood and leave some of the decoration out here. I draw some lines on the keel beam where I want to join them with the grain of the wood in different directions Any ideas here are welcome to let it look authentic. Hi Marcel Alan (Gandale) cover his with wallnut. i was in the begining stage of my model and had ample time to play arround and decided to cut mine of solid wallnut. Once completed I was informed that it doesn't matter as this section is not visible and gets painted black. Hope that this helps. Kobus

I want to alter this section to show the wood and leave out some décor. If someone can show me how this part were originally assembled, it would be of great help. Looking at the supplied poster of the SOTS, te metal casting can be left out to display the beautiful woodwork and craftsmanship. If someone can show me how this part were originally assembled, it would be of great help. I wish not to use paint only but varnish and solid wood on my build. Hi Marcel
Your picture at the top shows the Amati SOTS drawings,these are closely based on the drawings of Sir R.Seppings,whose model of SOTS is in the National Maritime Museum.There is no information as to the construction of the prow in existence,even Seppings whose model is not painted,has made this section from one piece of wood.I have a wreath of information showing the construction of this on ships from later in the century,but the overall shape is completely different.You can't even copy Vasa's whose shape is the same because there is a long slot in it full of carvings.I think Amati's design above is a feasible one and I would copy that.Rather than buying the drawings,just google Amati Sovereign,there are several builds on the net.
Sorry I can't be of any more help,but any factual information on this just no longer exists I am afraid
