Originally the hull would have been shaped like a banana – curving up at each end.
When the ship was moored in Portsmouth Harbour, her original hemp cables were replaced with much heavier iron chains. All of the additional weight caused the ship to ‘hog’ reversing her hull shape. In addition, the hull is bellying between each of the 22 cradle supports.Tomick attached the following image(s):
