Hallo! Name's Martyn, modeller all my life, new to part-work but could not say no to the D51 loco - I've always wanted a large, metal steam loco but can't justify a live-steam kit at four times the price and which I'd never actually run anyway. De Agostini to the rescue, wish I'd known about it sooner.
Cheers, Martyn

Thanks for the welcome folks. Must say I'm looking forward to the first parts sets. I have to forewarn I plan on doing something eccentric with the finish; it'll either be a treatment of the brass you probably won't have seen before or a paint scheme that I'll cop some flak for, aheh. Haven't made my mind up yet but it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Am enjoying looking over everyone's builds and yes I'll post a build thread myself at some point. :)

Welcome Martyn, like your username, is there a Captain in there somewhere??......Modelling is all about what you want to do with your model, not what others think you should do, so crack on and do it your way and enjoy yourself......As long as it's "All done in the best possible taste"...

Thanks Tony. Haha, Kremmen of the Star Corps at your service. I'm really interested in checking out the properties of the Zamac alloy, I haven't worked with it in ages and last time it was rubbish pot metal that had a lot of zinc pest going on. Really want to know what it looks like when de-plated and aged - it's a variant of the natural metal finish but rather than polished, I'd be going for a facsimile of an aged antique model. Anyway, that's the one of my vague schemes which would hopefully would pass the Cupid Stunt test. The other one wouldn't, but I may save it for if/when the C62 is ever released in Oz. That'd be a Day 1 purchase for me, I love 4-6-4 locos! The wife reports a big box just landed with a thump on the front verandah. Can't wait to get home.
