Here we go with model 2 of my dio - the famous 25 pounder Field Gun.
A couple of interesting facts about this one, a well trained crew of 6 could fire off 8 rounds per minute and the total time from towing position to being unhitched and stabilised to firing the 1st shell was just 45 seconds!

Im finding the etch very tricky on this kit and have botched a few bits up, i also have too much CA on some of the parts but hoping it will not show when primed. Whenever I feel like giving up on the etch I take a look at Jase's Bismark then I see how easy I have itBigGrin

Ok, some pics of the work so far -

Hi Steve looking good Cool

note your comment on the CA. you don't have to use CA unless there is some stress on the part. if its not load bearing try using PVA or even a spot of varnish, both are easier to clean up if you get some seepage.

A bit more done on this today, completed the gun and got the primer and base coat on. I wanted the black to show through the sand base coat as these guns were mostly repainted dark green european theater and were quick painted in the sand colour.
There is still the ammo limber to build yet plus the crew of 6.
Next for the gun is a coat or 2 of pledge or klear as it was once known, i use this as it gives a great surface for washes plus it also gives a very nice satin look to the paint which looks more like painted metal than plastic. Wheel hubs to do alsoBigGrin

Practically finished, there is a sand weight pack to be added but as this is going to be part of a dio im going to add that later. The ammo limber build and crew coming shortly. The wash and weathering was done with vallejo game colour washes and also used a cheap "desert" eye makeup kit for pigment - both shown below -

The next part of this kit is the ammo limber, I made a deliberate point of not weathering the gun and limber as one item as they would have suffered varying levels of wear and usage. Apart from the gun crew this completes Pt 2 of the dio. The gun crew consists of 6 figures but I dont want to build these yet as I need to see where I want them on the dio first, I may even have them doing other dutiesBigGrin

No diary for this build but a couple of pics of the painting stages -

First, paint only but no detailing

Next, with a Vallejo Black wash thinned down a fair bit.

Then 2 pics after a Sepia wash thinned down

And then with some metallic detailing and a few filter washes of sand. I will be making some final layer additions later when I have the exact colour of the desert scene etc but until then this will do.

There were also shells and cases with this kit but these will be done when the dio is coming together.
Next up is pt 3 - the Stuart M3 "Honey" Tank with interiorBigGrin
