The quarterdeck and bulwarks in Issue 68 are about 3mm too short. If I extend them before fixing to the hull will this cause a problem later on? Has anyone else found this or is it just me?

sounds like the gunwales may not have been trimmed back earlier in the build, shouldn't be a problem, just post a pic, and we can sort it. k.

I hope the attached helps. I've just laid the deck and bulwark in place. You can see that both are a bit short.

Hi Karl. I hope these help a bit more. The quarterdeck panel measures 123mm but the distance on my model is 126mm from the inner face of the transom to the end of the bulkhead.

hi paul, the fix itself is fairly straightforward, and requires a bit of soaking and razor sawing and a couple of clamps also a 3mm. fill-in on the lower deck should do it. the former that has the front edge on the quarter deck supporting it,needs to me moved back 3mm. the former was not quite aligned correctly, easy to do. fairly easy to put right. you need to soak the inside of the planking with a medium paintbrush, and carefully ease the planks away from the former.the former should then be moved back 3mm. re-glue the planking and putting clamps in place while the glue sets.this will leave a 3mm gap in the next deck down, which is filled with a 3mm.fillet across the deck.razor saw the gunwales 3mm. back and reglue the baulkhead to the quarter deck. all should be well. good luck.

Hi Karl. I've had another look at the deck problem and I may not have to do as much as you suggested. I removed the bulkhead panel and the quarterdeck is only slightly short so I might try to sand the hull former to reduced the width slightly. I've got some thin wood veneer so will cut another bulkhead panel to fit but will strengthen it with some offcuts. I'll give it a go over the weekend and let you know how it went.

but don't forget that the bulkhead HAS to be flush to the deck face.(edge)
