Great tip Karl. Could you tell me what sanding sealar do you use?

Tom

Hi shipmates! BigGrin
I would use sanding sealer for that job but I would use Clear Dope (For shrinking and sealing nylon and tissue paper coverings on balsa wood flying air-craft models.) follow the instructions on the tin you won't see the joins. Small creases are removed as the Dope dries.

Cool

Be careful when using shrinking dope/Clear Dope, the fumes are overly aggressive if you have a bad chest, and also if you dont allow even coats, you can warp the whole structure. (Been there/Done that on an old Spitfire, wasted two months of work)

Does Cellulose Dope tighten up cotton? (as in lengths of string?)

yes, dope will shrink any textile material.you can thin it down with thinners, but will still shrink the string, but not so much.

Cheers Karl.

I just foresee a potential need to tension-up odd bits of rigging, so that'll be useful to know..

not tried that, but I forsee some deck furniture dangling at the end of a bit of string? or maybe the odd yardarm askew at 45 degrees to the rest, lol . don't know how much shrinkage there will be,best do a test piece first.

LOL

I see you have a fine, working crystal ball there Karl. I used mine to visualise what you were saying and the visions were amusing to say the least.

* slaps dope on a rope (groan)

* Watches happily as the rope taughtens

* ignores creaking sound, goes off for a cuppa

* returns and wonders why certain parts of the ship are doing Jerry Anderson auditions.

LOL My wife is named after a character in Stingray, apparently her oldest brother was in love with Marina the mermaid..personally I favoured Lady Penelope!Back in those days I looked like Joe 90 with my national health specs..till they brought out the wire ones that ripped the back of your ears apart.
And before you ask I can remember when England had a decent football team & won the world cup!!!

Yes, I had similar problems with the glasses of the time...and as for England having a decent football team, that is a sore point with me, not that England had a good team, it was the fact that my wife and I got married on that particular day in 1966 when we won the world cup, I was as sick as a parrot for missing the match, and my football mates, never let me live it down for a long, long time..Mad Crying

Younger than you! Laugh

Although I did grow-up to a diet of Stingray, Thunderbirds, Capt Scarlet, Joe 90 and first re-rums of the Addams Family.. (my favourite by far.. Morticia Addams.. Phwoar..).

I blame the latter for any personality defects.

Fantastic

I have a vague memory of going to the Roy Roger's Wild West show at I think Harringay Arena in what would have been the early 50's!
