Hi all. going to ask all you experienced modellers for some opinion please. I have been constructing the old titanic from hatchette after buying it at bargain price. having recently started work on the yamato I find the part quality and construction method as well as instruction to be far superior to that of the titanic which is very flimsy and badly made. I have recently come across the entire Bismarck collection (again from hatchette I think) for a super bargain price. Does anyone have any opinions on it's quality etc. anyone that can reference it with the titanic or yamato would be spot on for giving me info for a decision to buy.

thanks

:-)

Hi
I collected the hatchette Titanic when it first came out and I too found it pretty poor with its cardboard overlays for the superstructure detail although I believe this was improved later by replacing the card with etched brass (or that could have been just for the full kit).

I have also collected the Bismarck and am about half way through construction (mothballed just now due to other projects) and this is far superior to the Titanic. The superstructure is all wood frame clad with etched brass.

I have not collected the the Yamato (although I am still seriously considering it once some other partworks have finished)but have followed the official build here and the Bismarck construction is very similar.

One difference I noticed was that on the Yamato the main guns are a single casting whilst the Bismarck has the wood frame/etched brass clad approach.

In short I personally would recommend the Bismarck collection and will have to get back to it once I have some free bench space.
