HI All! I have started building the HIRYU(飛龍 Flying Dragon) that was one of the 6 Imperial Japanese Navy's aircraft carriers sunken in the Midway operation. It is a Fujimi's 1/700 water line model with photo etching parts set, wooden deck seal and dry decal set. My friend requested me to build his kit and I accepted his offer on the other day. After my finishing this model, it will be sent to him. One of the reasons why he requested me is that he knew I have ever built the HIRYU model. I'll post the building diary here, since it is also a great motivation to keep a promise of the deadline. Best Regards, Yutaro Yutaro HONMA attached the following image(s): DeAGOSTINI 1/250 the YAMATO, 1/250 the AKAGI. Hi All! I post second diary. I start making a floor. Two metal panels are glued tightly on the floor part. These panels not only stabilize the model but also prevent the model from being warped in the future.(No.1) Next right and left hull parts are glued with many stiffeners. Although I glued carefully, there is a small gap at the bow. I apply putty in it.(No.2,3,4,5) Windows are opened by 0.5mm drill. Windows in the red lines have already opened. I think they seems to be sharper than residual window's molds.(No.6,7) A bow deck part is processed. Since I'll exchange reels for etching, I remove the molds on the part. I attach 0.2mm brass rods on the linoleum covered floor. Since Hiryu's Navy Yard was YOKOSUKA(横須賀), IJN gray 2 (No.32) paint is used. Additionally linoleum color is painted on the part.(No.8,9,10,11) Today's work is end here. Hi All! I posted my 6th diary. I assembled weapon equipments that are attached on the both side of the hull.(No.1) At this stage, I stopped to check residual works. A flight deck is going to be attached at the next stage. It will be very difficult to attach the parts under the deck or to repair the errors there. Checking the assembling instruction, I verified the model, plastic parts and etching parts.(No.2) I may be able to go to the next stage. Hi All! This is my 7th diary of HIRYU. I started building the flight deck of the HIRYU. First, I remove the two small wings that are located beside of the flight deck.(No.1) They are exchanged for etching parts.(No.2,3) Three lifts were fixed at upper position. Flight deck was painted in IJN Gray 2 and located on the hull temporary. No interference among the parts were not observed.(No.4,5) After drying the paint completely, wooden seal is attached on the deck.
