Seem to be doing the gunports quite quickly. Although some of the sides are not as straight as they should be, I can file these down when putting in the little planks inside the gunports.

Thanks for all your comments and help.

Hi Cuan
The second layer will certainly be easier due to the fact that you will not need to bend any planks, easier to lay as well as you have a solid base to work on rather than just bulkheads. It's also a chance to hide any imperfections (not that I can see any) - Is the veneer supplied as 2 colour effect as well?
Steve

I have an open question on this matter: Does anybody do a build and actually deface (add dents and marks) the planking to make the the sides look more realistic?

With the wood that came with the DelPrado, there was no need to 'add' anything! BigGrin LOL

Just joking! some of it was ok!

Nice one Robin, probably only another Del Prado builder would appreciate the cutting edge of the humour.

Back to the topic, Cuan, I haven't seen it done to the hull, but doesn't mean you can't do it, would be different, but has to be your call.
As its been said many times on this forum, go with what you are happy with.

[size=7]Hi, I need some HELP. Does the transom (#30) go up at an angle, and if so how much? IS the edge of the transom supposed to be flush with (#16) or is it supposed to hang a little over the edge of #16. It looks (in the plans) like they are flush. Please any help would be greatly appreciated.Confused

Hi Odenjs,

Sorry for very late reply on this.
I have made mine go 2mm over the top just in case. Its always easier to sand away than to add back later.

Cheers

Guys,

I am building 2 ships at the same time so I do some on the victory and some on the SOTS. Back onto the Victory now so more updates coming.
I have started the gunport linings and can I just say...What a painful experience. Putting in little pieces of wood on the side of each gunport and then they fall into the ship etc and then trying to retrieve them again.....Shoo!Angry
Anyway, I will post some pics on the status.
Please let me know your thoughts. I see that when putting the gunport linings on looks quite strange as they tick out a little, but when sanding them, they start to blend in nicely with the side of the ship.

Cheers
Cuan

Hi Cuan

She's coming along really well there! Cool I can remember just how fiddly the gun port frames were on my Grimsby! It looks like you might already be doing it, but I found it easiest to cut and glue the top and bottom edges in first and when they were dry cut and fit the side pieces, there was less 'slippage' inside that way! BigGrin

You're doing great so far!

Thanks everyone. I have made a few beggar-ups, being my first ship. I think a lesson learn here is that using a fair amount of force doesn't particularly help the cause Blink

I will keep this updated as I go
