OMG Just seen the official build showing the kit parts for the seat harness truly awful in this scale
thought with the lovely sutton harness example out here for 1/72 1/48 1/32 1/24
we deserve something better than the example shown
ok so in our scale guys how do we make a more worthy example i have not got the experience in material
sp ideas and suggestions

Hi Sophie, Not building this myself but I would think you could do a good job of this with some thin canvass material, brass wire and small brass rivets - there are some large scale sutton harnesses here - http://www.iflytailies.c...-accessories/harnesses/
just scroll down for the one you need, look pretty easy to make though once you work out the scale size  Steve

Brass strip won't reflect seat belt material in any form, but it is possible to replace this to look like webbing.

What scale is the harness in relation to the scale of the Spitfire. I have found a few web sites with 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 scale harnesses but I don't know if these are any good for size or will they have to be smaller. Regards Taz “Count your age by friends, not years. Hi Taz The Spit is 1/12 but what i would do is wait untill you get the seat and the supplied belts then make comparisons of what is available and get the best you can find. Well I have to say the seatbelts don't look too good but the seat itself if that's it painted matt black is atrocious, you can see the edges on the ply and if this is supposed to be museum quality then all I can say is their standards are very low. Lets hope someone can find decent after market bits or at least plans for some parts.

Andy, you are of course free to paint the seat however you choose. Have you thought about starting a build diary of your own?
Personally I would have painted the seat pad and surround different colours, but sadly the official build is bound by the instructions which show the entire seat as black, though black is inaccurate and the seat itself crying out for further detail.

I also saw it described as "museum quality". Some of the detail does look pretty lame considering the time and money on the project. Completed:McLaren MP4 - 23

Yes Tomick I could paint it any colour I want but I wasn't just talking about the colour, there has been no thought gone into the seat or the harness, and yes we can all do what we wish but I don't think any of us started this at £28.00 per month to look at the very poor quality of these parts, how many other parts will look as bad and how much else do we have to change ourselves at more expense, also Tomick when I do begin the build which I haven't done yet due to lingering ill health I will do a diary, and lastly Tomick to say that there was no mention of museum quality is a little pedantic I think, even if that actual word was not used all descriptions of this build and finish would lead one to that assumption. Hi All,  I`m building this subscription. As with any subscription there may be some issues as to the detail etc. A member of this forum has made numerous enhancements to the "Victory", still a brilliant model if made as standard. The Spitfire is now in production and I think it`s a bit late to make any major changes to the parts supplied. To that end I don`t think making Mr T the beating stick will help anyone. Lets try and pull our skills together and try and make the corrections as best we can. To that end I`ll make a start with a pic of a resin Spit safety belt and seat Spitfire pilot belt As you will see this is a 1:48 resin kit, but gives some basics to make a replacement. Now the following pic is taken from an ended ebay item and shows a real Spitfire belt set.  Now I`ve managed to put this info together in 25 mins after a 13 hour shift at work, so lets get our heads together and sort this out. Whingeing with no alternative input just don`t work. Hi Andysod Whilst I can agree with some of your issue's, the seat for one I beg to differ that I have never seen this part work described as museum quality in any of the official descriptions . If it is the case that the museum quality was used in an official description then by all means please give us the link to that statement so we can all share it. Also making assumptions in life generally leaves people with egg on there faces as it would seem you are now claiming it was not said officially but you thought it was so in your last post regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

ok guys yes some of us are a little upset with what I'm guessing will be a basic cockpit not even at the standard of the old faithful Airfix 1/24th , which I'm using as a template now and detailing from there not easy in tho scale as i don't think we can fall back on after market enhancements so how do we progress to build seat , harness and and and lol

No Andy what I said in my last post was that all descriptions I have read about this model would lead you to assume that it would be that measure of quality, Delboy I wasn't using Tomick as a whipping post I was merely replying to his answer to my post, I wasn't whingeing about certain parts I was pointing out how shipshod I thought they looked and that for the cost I would have expected a higher quality, yes Andy we can find things through google and ebay but as you know yourself you wont find much in 1/12 scale and not everyone is capable of scratch building there own. I would think that most people who have started this kit and I would hazard a guess there are quite a few like me total newbies, would have been under the impression that the kit would be all it was advertised as and not one where you had to be looking around for after market additions or replacements. Lastly and believe me I am still not whingeing, I thought this forum was for the discussion of the kits and the build, so surely we can discuss what we think is wrong or bad and not just the good things Andy

Your name was never mentioned. With that point hopefully cleared up, I agree that the parts could be described as sub-standard. So lets get to the gritty bit. What do we do? Now a 1:24 guide ain`t all bad, cos if I`m right (and I`ll be told if I`m wrong) you need to double the size. A good digital vernier gauge can be purchased on ebay for a few quid. This will give you some very accurate measurements to work from. So how do we build it from here? Honest answer is that at this point I don`t have an instant answer, but I will be looking into it. Derek sorry if you thought I was having a pop at you I wasn't and yes I agree something has to be done but I am also at a loss as to what, as I say I am a newbie. The point I was trying to make was that taking the various descriptions and the one on twitter was from Model Space it was museum quality, the seats and harness are way far from that, hopefully there wont be any more suprises in store.

Hi Andy, No problem from here. As you say, you have yet to start your build so you are in the best position. People with build experience will be working on the solutions. Hold back a bit and we`ll see what can be done. When a solution comes up you will probably think "why didn`t I see that" but with time you will be the one giving help and advise. I only started these big builds approx 18 months ago, but have come up with solutions to problems to help others.
