The Blyscawica (now a floating museum in Poland) and her sister ship, The Grom, literally Thunder and Lightning, were the two most powerful destroyers in the world at the start of WW2. Built in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, to Polish specifications, they escaped to England and served under Royal Navy command.
In 1941, undergoing a refit in Cowes, the Blyscawica defended the town from a massive air raid. In 2011, the ship will return to Cowes to celebrate the 70th anniversary of their defence of the town. Perhaps a commemorative model in recognition of the lives saved.
