Hi All,  Well here`s a little teaser. Found these on ebay and I think they will look good over the doors of the control tower and nissen huts. So next skill to master is "LIGHTING" The item. Pic 1 These can be run off 6v or 12v with the supplied resistors. What a brilliant find! And they look so 1940's too!  Are you going for a battery or a plug in transformer? (Of course, there's no excuse for leaving out the Lanc's landing lights now! Robin Hi Robin, Thanks for taking the time to look in. I thought they looked good too, especially the brackets. Now, as for the power supply and the fact that this is being fitted in a coffee table, I think the plug-in transformer may be the best way to go, so I`m open to advise on this one. (I`m on uncharted ground here) So, with that bit in the air for now, "landing lights" sorry "NO", but runway lights, now that has some chances. I`ve got a full ground crew and support vehicles to put round it, so I think we can safely say it`s powered down. That`s my excuse and I`m sticking to it. I`m open to suggestions for flashing lights simulating bombs landing in the local area or maybe a search light scanning the sky. Hi Del, That's another thing I was going to mention, a lot of people overlook the 00 scale when doing these dio's in 1/72 or 1/76 but there are loads of useful detailing items on the model railway supplies websites. Steve

Hi All, Well the only thing I can say is "WOW WOW WOW" I`ve said it numerous times on this forum, if you need "Help, ideas or assistance with your plan, this IS the place to be". Many thanks to all above for the links, ideas and even more so the kind comments. Now here`s the latest delivery.Pic 1 I really like this item as an addition, but there is one minor issue me thinks  Pic 2 These two items are supposed to be very close to the same scale. The figure would need to be on hands and knees to get in that shelter. Now I have seen a couple of these and they had a couple of steps to go down to get in. This resin kit has paving stones right up to the door.Pic 3 So my intended course of action is as follows: From recent experience, part of these shelters are below ground level and when inside head room is minimal. So the cure is (I think ): 1: Cut away the small paving section 2: In the base plate (dio base) cut a small piece away in front of the door and insert a couple of steps downwards 3: Extend the door down accordingly and job done, hopefully. Ideas, tips etc will be accepted gratefully if you can see a better solution. Many Thanks for looking in and HAPPY building. Hi Derek,
It may be correct, as a fair portion of the shelter was underground. I vaguely recall an Anderson Shelter in the back garden at my Grandads, and I am sure it was mostly below ground level. A search on Google for images of Anderson Shelters will also show it looks about right.

Hi Derek Cutting away that front paving bit is the best way to go, (the front of that shelter is very much like my own bunker design) These types of shelters usually had an access almost like a tunnel (without the roof) built up of layers of sandbags, if you did that with miliput or similar that will also emphasize the underground section too. If you can get a list of what lighting elements you are going to have in the diorama (especially their power ratings (amps) I'll work out the best transformer for you and let you know where's cheapest! All looking good! Hi All, Many thanks to the members above for all their comments,compliments and offers of assistance Offers of assistance will be followed up as time goes by, cheers. Had a little play with some paint and scenic adaptations and came up with this. The shelter has not been blended into the grass base, just for show at the moment.Pics 1-2 The front of the shelter will still be enhanced further, when I put in the steps and extend the door, then add additional sand bags. As for the grass, that will also be blended in when the shelter makes it into the final dio. Thanks guys, Small update: Moved back to the control tower now and painted and then secured some of the railing posts on the first level. Now, the kit comes with the posts but not the rails, so I tried a trick I saw on the web a few days ago. 1: Purchase a scalectrix miniature motor (available on e-bay) for a few quid.Pic 1 2: Un-clip the outer casing of the motor, then you have a lot of very fine wire which can be removed from the motor centre as required.Pic 2 3: Wrap the wire round the posts and secure. I painted the wire in place having put a complete wrap of wire around the post. When dry and stuck, I then painted the wire between the posts black.Pic 3 That`s all for now.
