I added the search light pods to the funnel. Next the funnel received a coat of primmer then the final grey coat. I masked off the areas ready for the baltic stripes. I used an airbrush to apply the paint.

There were a few areas where the paint leaked but I touched these up with a paint brush, also as you can see from the first photo the white stripe was slightly out so I remasked and painted again.

After this I airbrushed the platform and added this to the funnel, using photographic/computer generated references I started to add extra detail. The bracing/foot walks around the funnel were very tricky! This was supplied from the Eduard photo etch set.

The additional detail is great mate.
Keep it up, will be adding little extra's to the hood where i think necessary but can't imagine there will be too many of them.
Cheers
Peter

Its been a while since my last post but the model is making good progress when I get time to work on it.

The kit part for the funnel crane platform wasn't up to much, so I used the Eduard photo etch parts plus some scratch built elements.

Next I worked on the main gun housings, they were primmed then sanded and gaps filled. I then added the detail supplied by the kit and some extra detail from the MK1 set. I also used the MK1 barrels and blast bags as these provided more detail and realism than the kit provided parts.

As you can see the MK1 barrels provide way more detail than the kit ones.

The hull was now ready for its final paint scheme, I had seen a technique which used painted dark lines and spots underneath the finalcolour to give the hull definition, I decided to give it ago as you can see in the photos below, however it didn't work out for me as I applied a thick layer of colour over the top.

The usual process of masking was used which was quite time consuming.

The areas were marked off ready to apply the baltic strips scheme

Latest update after a long spell away with work, the first few photos show the ship as it stands. I've been adding the kit photo etch as well as after market parts as i go along. I had to trim parts of the railings as they were too long and over lapped. A lot of filling gaps and sanding of the super structure has been needed.

Hi Ben

A very impressive build you have yourself there.

Your photo etch work really does add a delicate and detailed look to the model.

Happy modelling
