Hi everyone, Are the balsa infills necessary I don't see in Mr T's build diary. Regards Ted ______________________________________________________

Hi Ted Balsa infills just make it a little easier when it comes to planking later. With the infill there is no room for a plank to depress anywhere between rib frames. karl1113's build which I have been following shows a full infill however it is not mandatory as per the build instructions like you've seen. Just makes it a little easier for a newbie to ship modelling like me. Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Hi Ted If you read through some of the members builds then you will find how to put the infills in. Thats how I have started my build and I have found that it works a treat, it helps give added strength to the ribs and the framework , also the planks bond to the balsa. Hi Ted Infills are a good measure to help with planking for people new to building ships and give more surface area for the planks to adhere to more so at the bow and the stern where the main curves are. I like Mr T rarely use infills as with confidence and experience the fairing of the formers is enough but take a look at my Santisima Trinidad build where you will see an example of the use of fillets and there placing to get the planks to lay correctly. http://forum.model-space...aspx?g=posts&t=7623
Hope this helps regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi arpurchase and thanks for the tip. I found what I as looking for on page 7 and have been progressing from there. I also found it is a lot easy to read the diaries with the desktop as opposed to the ipad, (which has it uses). I will follow up on Gandale's link after this note. Thanks for the help. PS just been to Bunnings and bought its stock of balsa! Well the big bits anyway!

Huh,
Balsa infills? I'm only up to issue five and have had to go and look back to old Blighty to find out what you were talking about. I have decided I will take the build in my time and just look occasionally at these posts.
Talk about nearly scare me off!

Okay, I apologise, but I thought I was on the Australian Forum so I did not expect to have to pre-empt the build and go elsewhere to find out what I have to do in the future! Cheers and lets hope the Australian Forum stays at the build level we are at! After all, we are only Colonials!
