The instructions for rigging the 30 no 12 pounder long guns are not very detailed - all I have to go on is photo 17 of the instruction book. (JoTika page 15)
Looking through some of the build diaries for inspiration is helpful but unfortunatly I cannot see how the tackles and breaching ropes are made. I would guess the side tackles which stop the gun from recoiling are made by somehow winding the 0.1mm thread round a rod or similar. I would guess a jig is used to hold the pairs of 2mm single blocks at each end of the tackles while the thread is round around the rod.
Also it looks a bit odd the way that the thread is looped over the end of the gun barrel
Any help/photos appreciated
Julian
ps
Sorry if my terminology for 18th century boat building is not quite correct yet - I am slowly learing!

Hi Take a look at the official DeAg Vic build, issue 49 - http://forum.model-space...aspx?g=posts&t=1920
This shows the rigging for the 10 upper gun deck cannons, there is also a detailed description to go with the pictures. Cheers Steve

Hi JC. I've had a quick look at the relevant photo and I see what you mean about it not being very clear! In actual fact, that cannon is pictured as it would be when tied up for storage during the long sea voyages. If you intend to model your Victory in a 'battle ready' condition you won't need to do any of that fancy 'rope spinning'. The cannon tackle would be simple block and tackle for both the running out gear and also the running in as well (the rope at the rear of the carriage). Many modellers simply knot the blocks to the rings on the carriage but some have gone the whole hog and have a metal hook on the blocks which hooks into the same ring. As Stevie says, the official DeAgostini instructions do show the set up very well. Best of Luck Robin First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1

Thanks for the info Robin/Steve I think I will go for the running in and out using block and tackle as suggested by Steve The trouble with the Caldercraft kit is the instructions are not very detailed. Still part of the model building experience is the chance to make the model to ones own preferences - perhaps the best way is to build it 'battle ready'. Unfortunatly I do not have access to the DeAg magazine issue 49 which apparently explains it in great detail (unless I buy the back copy!). Having looked at the instructions posted by Steve from the magazine I think the DeAg instructions are much superior to the Caldercraft ones (still I would have expected this as this they do have to fill all 120 issues of a magazine Thanks Julian ps Just found this drawing - shows it all in great detail http://www.go2gbo.com/fo...ory-and-recoil-control/
