Hi all, awaiting the arrival of my first parts of the HMS Surprise (time suuuure goes slow when you're waiting, eh? ) I thought it might be nice to say hi to one'n'all, especially since I plan to drain you all of all your precious knowledge. Trust me, it won't hurt a bit, I promise. No, really, I can be as gentle as a kitten (You can call a ferocious tiger cub a kitten, can't you? ) Oh, and I'll say a hearty thank you afterwards too. Anyway, I am not new to this, having made many models in plastic, card board and matchsticks, so a step up to slightly larger matchsticks shouldn't be too much of an issue. And I HAVE made a wooden ship before, a few eons ago, when I wrestled with a Billing Boats Krabbenkutter. I won, of course (cough) and the boat even stayed afloat in the bathtub. Unfortunately that was about two score years ago so my wood building skills may be a bit rusty (you try living in a filled bathtub for 40 years and not rust). Anyway, I think I'm going to have a grand time here and wanted to say thank you in advance. Adrie. 'Where to glue or where not to glue, that is the question' Building: Hr. Ms. de Ruyter (card), Retourschip Batavia (Revell), HMS Surprise (De Agostini) Built (and sunk): Too many to list

Welcome to the party Adrie. A good place to learn, ask and be baffled for a while till the doors of the mind opens. A little banter will also not go amiss. A few pics will do no harm either. Many thanks for the kind words, Alan, Steve, Hans (I read you the first time ) and Tom. And don't worry, ther'll be banter alright. Harhar! And ther'll be loadsa pictures too! I've just put some new batteries in the trusty old camera and a new Mini SD too! Just noticed that I seem to have mislaid my card reader though so had the order one off the internet. I'm afraid this will mean that ther'll be nothing to gawk at until Thursday. But then again, I'm in it for the long haul with an estimated build time of two and a half years, so what's waiting until Thursday compared to that, eh? Anyway, the balsa has arrived so I'll be ready ...... Ehhhh, fella's? No twiddling thumbs smily? Ooooh, that wouild have been so perfect to finish the reply with. Oh well, that's life, eh? Nothing's perfect. You'll be seeing me (and that aint a threat!) Adrie. 'Where to glue or where not to glue, that is the question' Building: Hr. Cheers, Martyn. I am a great believer in de simple truth that you may not need to be mad to enjoy it here/there/anywhere/everywhere (* delete as appropriate) but that it is at least a bleeping good start and you DO need all the help you can get in this mad, mad world. And a madhouse is but another name for a house filled with misunderstood people. And thanks, AR. Nice sunglassses there. Does this mean you're the resident cool dude? If so, then please forgive me, but you'll be The Fonz for me from now on. Adrie 'Where to glue or where not to glue, that is the question' Building: Hr.
