Hi While I have managed to make up the blocks to date (4 blocks) as per instructions there must be an easier way. At one time I could catch flies in my fingers but that is no longer the case and with the amount of blocks that look like we're going to need by the time SOTS is built I will have no hair left either. If you have an easier method of putting these together than fumbling with stiff fingers and periodically losing all on the floor then I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Thanks in anticipation. George1 Building HMS SOTS

Hi George Are you reffering to the process of tying the thread to the block? Steve

hi george,I'm nearly 70 yrs. old,and have trouble with these blocks, try tying 1.5mm blocks, now here;s a way of not losing them, brass nail them to a piece of wood, that'll hold the beggars, then invest in a pair of magnifying headsets, then tie them off to your hearts content. some use wire and some use thread, wire is slightly easier. then paint the wire after.good luck mate, you only have about another 200 to go. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

I was referring to the wiring re loops etc. Find it very difficult to keep 1.5 mm block in position while doing so. However karl has come up with a great idea of nailing them down via the hole in them then tying off. So will go that way as soon as small nails come in an issue pack. Thanks karl. You've come to my rescue once again. It is greatly appreciated and I just now might still have a head of hair when finished. Will wait on brass nails in issue to arrive before trying to tie any more. I'd say some of the other newbies will also appreciate this info. Regards and thanks again. George1 Building HMS SOTS

jonny7england wrote:Nice tip Karl..thanks mate..I was just wondering what to do with the million or so brass nails left over?? Hi johnny7england It was a really good tip. Simple but very effective for the purpose. That's the benefit to us newbies of having experienced guys around like yourself and karl and of course other long time modellers. Hi George and Karl I'm 72 and just started on this caper (and really hooked already). My eyesight's not what it was so I had a bit of trouble with tying the wire round the blocks. I embedded a 1mm drill into a piece of wood clamped to the workbench in order to form the top eyelet - no problem there, but the problem was locating the wire into the grooves at the sides of the block then twisting at the bottom. I will try your tip Karl with a pin through the hole to hold the block firmly. Thanks.

Hi Jock. Thanks for the input. Watched the URL. Ok if you've got all the gear that guy has. I'm only armed with a pot of glue and a nail file. I do have a liitle more than that but looking at his workshop I might as well say that in comparison. Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS
