Well i have finally got around to starting my model, at the moment i have issues 1 and 2. They get delivered to my girlfriends in cornwall and at the moment i am working in Portsmouth so it takes a while to get back and pick them up. One bonus of this is that i can watch what other people do to there model and nick a few ideas here and there! Thats what i have done with the cannon. I re made the brackets with green stuff. I replace the wheel axels. I made the rivet heads on the sides useing deck fixing pins. I made the rings useing siz 14 hooks. I learned a fair bit making this yesterday, so look forward to making the next one as i can add what i have learned to make it even better.

It's all looking good to me at the moment. Your launch is pretty neat. I like the pictures with the cannon, anchor and launch completely dwarfed by the hull construction.
I decided this morning to start putting my hull pieces together and think about building a jig. It was the first time I pulled the centre pieces out of the plastic bags. Putting them together has just made me realise how big a monster this model is going to be!

well started again, my new build area in my parents loft is a lot better than sharing a 4 man room!!! plenty more victory room. i have built the new decks i am surprised how good the planking looks as its just pencil and i think i have done enough sanding, although i can always do more as i go and as its my girlfriends birthday i better get going before i get a full broadside from her!!!!!

Well, its been along time since I have posted on here! Months ago I had a very busy period at work and I got further and further behind with my build. Then the issues built up and up and up and before I knew it I had a pile of parts and magazines and only the frame of a ship! I got quite disheartened with having so much to do and also found the thought of planking the hull quite intimadating! A few months back i glued some balsa in between the frames at the bow and stern and left it at that. But today I decided to use the nice weather to go outside and sand down the balsa and crack on with my build.

don't be intimidated by the build up of parts, think how lucky you are that you have got lots, and lots, and lots and lots and lots to do, but don't be intimidated by the fact that there is lots and lots and lots do do. just enjoy the build Come on you Jimmies

As has been said this a hobby there is never a time limit involved, but, maybe if Goose came back it would be done twice as quick/or half as long. Looks good Steve..

PLANKING "FIRST BLOOD!!!"Last night was time to bite the bullet and start some planking, so I started at issue 20 with the stern planking. It all seemed to be going fine until the planks started to pull off the supports on one side due to the slight bend. But I carried on and glued them into place and then used elastic bands to re glue the supports and hold them in place. Then this afternoon I started issue 21, I trimmed the stern planks to shape and gave them a quick sand. I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. Today I started the first run of planking. It seemed quite a simple line to do, although it helped when I had actually turned the plank bender on! I completed the first row of planking all the way around and will wait for it to dry before doing the next row hopefully tomorrow afternoon. Happy Building Steve

Mav, you need to sand back the stern until the brown 'laser burn' on the central "keel" is gone.

I see what you mean Stefan, I have just been and checked and my keel section is 2mm in on the top and 6mm at the bottom! Im the build instructions it does seem to go in slightly but not that much. I think I glued the last few ribs on at a wrong angle. I think I will carry on and pack the back end when I add the keel. Just means my Vic will be a few mm longer. Cheers for pointing that out I had not even noticed. steve
