What brands of adhesive and brands of tool kits would modellers on here recommend

Hi Al For the official build I am using GRIP CA and EMA Plastic Weld. As for tools, a good sharp hobby knife and a set of diamond needle files. Some good masking tape like Tamiya's is also good to have. Regards Spencer

Hi. The ema weld I have found on eBay but when you click on your grip ca link it brings up a massive list of glues. Which is the right one to get? Senna mclaren mp4/4 build complete mp4/4 build http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=12029

Hi Steve, You need the Grip Cyano. Medium 25g from the Grip super glue range at the bottom of the list, you can get this from eBay also and a seller I get most of my paints/glues etc from is kitlady... http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/kitlady/m.html

Hi Steve, The little tube of glue supplied with issue1 is a medium viscosity plastic weld and needs to be applied very sparingly with a toothpick. This is not to be confused with the EMA plastic weld which is like water and uses capillary action to bond the plastic together almost instantly. Spencer

It's down to personal choice at the end of the day Steve.. Use what your happy with as long as it is right for the parts being fitted.. I use the EMA (water thin) purely because it's what I have used for years and feel compfortable in how to apply it. I always recommend trying any new glue on something old or similar just to make sure it does the job..practice practice practice  Spencer

I have the ema now. It says the best way to use it is to hold the 2 pieces in place and brush the liquid onto the top of the join and let it run in. Is this the best way to do it. It is the best way as the capillary action of it runs along the join..keep fingers well away from where your applying the EMA just in case it runs under your finger and leaves a finger print.. As for not being able to access certain areas or get to a joint... I've not encountered any model yet that I have not been able to bond parts but that does not mean there aren't any.. I've just found one..... Spencer

Ok i am getting massively confused with all the adhesives. so just have a couple of questions.
a) what is the stuff i got with pack 1? ( i assumed it was superglue and what was needed for that pack but reading the instructions im not so sure)
b)what is meant by 'plastic'glue? is this superglue as it says to use plastic glue for the ABS parts but i have ABS adhesive!?
sorry to sound stupid but its not that clear which to use and when and seems to blurr the lines between the different ones. I have ABS, polysterene and superglue, so could someone give me example of whats what : )

Plastic glue is not "super glue"... Super Glue is "Super Glue" or CA Glue. Plastic glue (Polystyrene) is the same glue you would use for building "Plastic" model kits. ABS Glue is also know as "Plastic Weld" or "Poly Weld" and has a thick consistancy to it. Once fry it sets hard bonding the plastic together after a few minutes. EMA "Plastic Weld" is like water in consistancy and is used for "Styrene,Butyrate,ABS,Acrylic,and Perspex" EMA plastic weld dissolves a thin film on each surface to be joined together then evaporates very quickly forming a welded joint as strong as the surrounding plastic. By holding the pieces together and applying the EMA on the joint, the cappilary action runs along the bredth of the joint, forming a continuous solid weld. Each set of instructions that you recieve tells you what adhesive you should be using for that stage of the build, so if it says "you will need plastic adhesive" then use plastic adhesive. If you are unsure what adhesive you have then read the label as it will tell you what the adhesive is for. @Steve279021 CA glue or "Super Glue" will be used at different stages of the build and you will be notified in each stage when it is to be used. Thanks Warthog On that basis, my confusion comes from it say you need to use plastic glue but the parts are ABS in part 1.  sorry, just want to make sure I get it right as its my first one. Thanks

Hi Spencer, thanks for getting back again........but in stage one the instructions say use the plastic (polysterene) glue on the ABS parts so would I not need the ABS adhesive then?  Thanks
