Hi bb1949 No I didn't find a problem with that join or 16 on 5. I did find a slight problem on the earlier join though. While as you can see re pics the join bracing piece tops are just below the false keel top so they are even with bottom of keel, I found when positioning rib frame into the slots each side that it tended to want to push brace on a slight angle. I had to muck around with the rib frames on both slots till eventually all fitted even and 90 degrees. Those join braces we're too wide really and it was too late as I had glued braces over false keel join.  Only one more join to go now re number 7 when we eventually get it with those join braces onto false keel. Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Thanks for that. I have found the bracing was a bit over-sized and slightly out of alignment. I posted the same message and had a confirmation that a bit of persistence and shaving the edges would resolve the problem, which it has. I agree with you in so far as I cannot wait for issue 7.
I also have a book on planking that helped me earlier. "Planking techniques for Model Ship Builders" Donald Dressel. ISBN 0-8306-2868-1 Tab Books 1988. I am not sure how good it is as having read some of it once I needed to actually do some planking so it made more sense. I am in the process of re-reading it and it is making more sense!
If you cannot lay your hands on it I will send you my copy. I can have it sent to a Perth business address and you could collect from there if that suits.

Number 6 issue on to previous. Small issue just two rib frames and instructions on making more blocks. Which I won't do till brass nails arrive in future issue. Rib frames on dry till decking arrives future issues.    Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Hi George. I do like the job you are doing. Looking very nice indeed. I am about to start putting in the security nuts described in issue 5 & 6. Son has his own shop fitting business so I have the furniture fittings that will work nicely. I will post the results tomorrow.

My new Shipyard. Managed to get better half to shift all her stored household items off one of my large work tables in garage when I threatened to do a lot of necessary sanding within house with dust everywhere. It did the trick.   Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Number 7 issue joined to previous. Rib frame in dry. Looks out of line but only photograph distortion. You'll note the brace pieces over joins this time not level with bottom of false keel. Reason being the braces encroach on the bottom curvature of the rib frame which would end up a hump when later planking.Still plenty of clearance to top of frames re later decking. Saves having to sand it off and also no distortion balsa infill later.     Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Hi. George You are making good progress and I too saw possible interference with the planking.Also when I first dry fitted the tail end I thought my whole keel was bowed. Not so it was just the way the keel was mounted. Will do the gluing tonight and add pics after.
