Hi Zepp, Lovely work you're doing there. Like the idea you had for the pins - nice one  . Another tip you may find useful if you're using the plank bender/crimper is to remove the blade and turn it around so as to use the flat edge rather than the blade. That way you will still get a good crimp but won't accidentally cut right through the plank. Brilliant job on the launch. Happy building David

Thanks again everyone for all the positive comments! David, I tried your tip of turning the blade around in the plank bender but I found it squashed/crushed the plank too much. I've gotten used to using the sharp side now and applying just the right amount of pressure. I think I only accidentally cut through 2 or 3 planks early on in the process, and haven't done one since!
Been so busy recently so I haven't had much time to work on the model, but I have managed to get the first lot of gun ports done! May take me a few or more years to finish this  lol, but I am enjoying the process immensely
I found drilling four holes for each port then rough sawing them and finishing them off by pairing with the x-acto knife much easier/quicker than the method used in the magazine!
Also, only 8 or so weeks to go before I finally get to go see the victory again for real! Does anyone know if all the masts are currently up on the Victory?
When I went 2 years ago, they were off, lying on the dock beside the ship (I assume for maintenance?). I'm hoping to get photos with them up this time!        Give quiche a chance!My Victory build

Hi Zep Looking good there , as for your question about the Victory one of out members went there a couple of weeks back and its would seem the masts are still off due to the major refurb going on there regards Andy  Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Lovely neat work Rob, your patience is certainly paying off. Nice way of doing the gunports and if it works for you then go for it, but... The idea of making the center hole as per the magazine build is to make sure that the dummy gun barrel has a nice centred hole in the support. Doing it your way will mean you now have to find the centre by eye that's all. Perhaps on the next row you may want to drill the centre hole first and follow through to the support, then continue with your corner hole solution? Steve

Hi Steve, Yeah I realise the way it's done in the magazine is so you have a central hole for the dummy guns, but I really don't trust my drilling to remain straight for those holes after going through the planking  Instead I plan on making a timber block jig around 25mm long, 12mm x 12mm square with a hole down the centre which i can put into the cutouts so it rests against the beam inside and guide the drill bit to ensure all dummy gun holes will be central! hopefully it works Give quiche a chance!My Victory build

I'm sure it worked perfectly though. Steve

Been a while since I posted an update. Been slow going on my build until a few weeks ago, But I'm getting back into it now.
Went on a 2 month holiday to the UK and Europe a few months ago and managed to visit the historic dockyard at Portsmouth and go on board the Victory! Was a lovely day and an amazing experience!(even if the full masts were still down for renovations) Some progress shots of my build.              Give quiche a chance!My Victory build

Rob That is the exact point I have reached in my build but again with so many other life issues at the moment is not progressed any further for a few weeks. Very nice work your doing on yours and that planking looks very smooth. Happy Modelling
