http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Harrisonhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Veb8xBNW5V4One of these marine clocks would be an ideal partwork, in particular, the H1, imo, though whether the metal (brass?) reqired would be able to produce one at a reasonable cost is another matter. OK, it may not appeal to everyone, but in an appropriate material, this would look great on a mantle piece or similar, and would make a great talking point! Completed: Earth, Moon, Sun Orbiter Build a Model Solar System
Under Constuction: HMB Endeavour HMS Victory Mitsubishi Zero Tiger Tank D51

Would be great. An extraordinary showpiece. I would particularly like it. Sad as it sounds, I had never heard of Harrison until the 1996 Only Fools and Horses Luckily, I live 10 minutes away from the royal observatory, so was able to see them in person straight away. However, I think the cost would be immense. Also, I'm sure many on here are fine modellers, but the H1 just looks so damn complex, that combined with cost, I just don't know if it would be a good mainstream modelling subject.

Harrisons clocks are indeed works of art,& I would love to build H1 but doubt the concept would be cost effective. There is a film that was shown as a mini-series about the man who restored the clocks which also tells the story of Harrisons & later his sons struggle to get the recognition he deserved. It is called Longitude & is a fascinating story well worth watching http://www.amazon.co.uk/...d_r=1XJZAPVJ06K3JKA452VQRob Nolli Illigitimi Carborundum!!!Current Builds: HMS Victory, SV Thermopylae

"Stopped" perhaps it just need rewinding :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) Seriously though I have seen both the Fools and Horses episode and the series "Longitude". Harrison was a man ahead of his time and it is thanks to his vision and the first accurate chronometer that ships of his time where able to plot their position at sea Would be an interesting build Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but what about a Congreve clock, much simpler and possibly much cheaper. Hopelessly inaccurate, but fascinating to watch.

There was talk of a Granfather/Mother clock a few years ago.

hi wildrover,I very much doubt you would get the h1 on your mantle shelf, It took 6 men to carry it aboard for testing.now the h3 was a different kettle of fish, more mobile but still large. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Hi Karl, I'll go with that. A scale H3 would be a wondrous project, I don't know if I could afford one, but I would love to have a go.
