I agree with Mr. T, Derek. Super build and a lovely looking kit.

Mind you, all kits look lovely until YOU are the one who has to put it together! LOL

But it looks like you're enjoying it so all systems go! ThumpUp

Hi Mr T, BigGrin

Many thanks for looking in and your comments.

As for the German, school boy basics (even from 1970) have helped.

Understanding how a language is constructed is very helpful. Cool

Another thing is that I could become is a scrap metal merchant. Blink

Take a look at these stats (so far). Brass used, against Scrap.

Build /Scrap

0.192 lbs / 0.273 lbs
87 gms / 123 gms
3.07 oz / 4.34 oz

Hey, could be a way to recoup some of the cost of the kit.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Happy building,

Hi Adrie, BigGrin BigGrin

This kit is so good, that finding a way past any minor issues that I`ve found so far, is not an issue.

All kits have their issues, dependent on who is building them, as people read instructions differently.

The good thing is that there are forums, like this, where people are always ready to help others, even if they are not building the same kit.

Will update as soon as poss as I`m loving this build. Love Love

Thanks for looking in.Cool

Hi Andy, BigGrin

As you may tell, I`m really enjoying this build.Drool

I understand the pitfalls of too much haste, but today`s progress is due to not being at work today and for the next two days.

As with all the builds I have on the go (so to speak)I wan`t to make the best of it as I can.

So far this kit,(because of it`s accuracy)almost puts itself together.

When part/issue 6 starts, then things will seriously slow down, as it`s then that the detail really kicks in with vengeance. Drool Drool

Therefore with your guidance (most gratefully accepted), things will go at a much slower pace.

Happy building

Hi All, BigGrin

Here comes issue 5

Just very basic stuff in this issue.

Couple of frame parts and more stringers.

The Parts: Pic 1

Firstly two lower frame parts are put in place. Pic 2

Followed by two short lower stringers. Pic 3

The work now moves to the top of the bulkheads, where two stringers are added and then vertical braces along the top of the bulkheads. Pic 4+5

Well as the last pic says, That`s it for issue 5.

It is now that some nimble folding is required , because issue 6 is the start of some of the fine detail.

The parts in Pic 6 below will build into the Bomb Targeting Window.

So, issue 6 build to follow soon. BigGrin

Happy building

Very nice Del, Is the brass going to be sprayed at all or left as it is?
Steve

Hi Steve,BigGrin

Firstly many thanks for taking a look and nice comments.

Now, as for the paint,no paint situation.

I thought about this long and hard before I started this build and came to the conclusion that I didn`t want to try and keep the brass shining for years to come, so paint it is.

The official German air force colours are given in the instructions and I`ve already sourced some on good old E-bay.

The air frame was painted in RLM66 or RAL7021, it`s a very dark grey almost black.

Vallejo do an Acrylic, Polyurethane primer that is a self leveling matt paint, that can be sprayed and/or brushed. Recommended for plastic, brass, resin etc.

Cost 50ml = £6
200ml = £12

Some of the parts in issue 6 need to be painted before an acetate window is fitted, so will be ordering some today.

Will be posting issue 6 very soon up to the point where painting is required.

Happy building

Looking GREAT, Derek! ThumpUpThumpUp

I noticed on the last photo that the brass for issue 6 was pre-formed for bending as well?

And what is the beige 'sheet' for that you encircled in the photo?

Oh, and did I mention that I think that it looks GREAT so far??? BigGrinBigGrin

Just making sure, really!

Hi Adrie, BigGrin

Thanks for looking in and the kind comments.

The brass in this kit is thick enough that it is channeled, to ease the bending process, only where parts are curved is it that you are left to your own skill.

The circled parts are acetate windows on an adhesive backing.

There are two parts on this sheet.

1:Glass for the bomb sight. (issue 6, when painted)
2:This part will be sandwiched between parts of the control console to give the glazing for all the dials etc. (to be shown later in the build)

Happy building

Hi All,BigGrin

Well here`s issue 6, up to the point where some paint is needed. (On order)

There is some delicate bending required here, aided by the pre-scoring of the brass.

Note: You still have to get the bend right with as little flexing of the brass as possible, or it will crack the brass and some of the bends are very close to the end of a part.

Having bent the main part of the bomb sight to fit the side panels (not stuck at this point)you fit the first open frame to check the fit.

At this point you are trying to hold four parts together to make sure all fits OK.

Decided at this point, not to take it apart, glue and reassemble as superglue won`t give you time.

Left parts together and fed adhesive in with a cocktail stick.

Here`s the result:

The arrowed part is the folded section. Pic1

Ok, so this is where it gets a bit small.

This part makes up three sides of a box section. Pic 2

(Specsavers, here I come LOL LOL LOL )

Folded it looks like this. Pic 3

This part is now located inside the main box frame. Pic 4

Having nearly glued myself to this kit, the next part needed to be bent very carefully in stages until it made a perfect fit. The bend is 2mm from the end of the part. This part makes the lower front panel of the bomb sight. Pic 5

Now what I seriously hope is the smallest parts of this kit are added. Pic 6

If you look closely, you can see a small channel down the centre of both parts, these are used to locate the parts in place.

This part of the construction now has to wait a while (paint required),
but some small parts are still to be added as well. Crying

Will continue with this project as other parts are built outside of the main construction.

Bring on issue 7+8. LOL LOL

The pilots foot control pedals.

Happy building

Hi All, BigGrin

So here comes issue 7, or part 1 of the pilots foot control pedals.

Lots of parts here to make very little, but the detail seems great.

Issue 7 produces the base plate for mounting the foot pedals and the pivot bar with centre mount block.

The base plate having been removed from the fret and any rough points removed has several tabs that need bending to 90 degrees. these tabs are all pre-scored for ease of bending.

Base Plate.Pic 1

Two straight bars and a box section now have to be added to this base plate.

Straight bar. Pic 2

These parts are constructed so it is not possible to get them in the wrong place, but I have been checking just in case and following the pics very closely.

So far the bending of parts has been easy, because of the pre-scoring of the brass, but the next box section is 42.5mm long and the bend along it`s length on both sides is only 2mm from the edge.

Time to break out the hold and fold 5.5 (First ever use)Pic 3

Just used the back edge of the tool, to clamp and fold both sides of the box section to produce this result. Pic 4

Speedy work required now, to fit the two flat bars and the box section, before anything stuck where it shouldn`t be.

All worked well and the resultant base plate looks like this. Pic 5

That`s the first half of issue 7 done.

These are the parts left to construct for the second half. Pic 6

Not shown in the pic is a brass rod that fits through all of the above parts.

The task now was to place all of the parts, in a specific order, one at a time, on the brass rod. Sticking them to each other, but not to the brass rod.

I changed the order of the parts from the instructions and worked from the centre out to each side.

Reason: the outermost parts were extremely small and could easily get stuck to the brass rod.

After some nerve cracking moments and forcing parts around this is the end result. Pic 7

Believe it or not, there are 15 parts constructed on that brass rod and somehow I managed to not get them stuck to the rod. Cool Cool

So that`s the end of issue 7.

Issue 8 will build on the base plate and eventually put foot plates on the build section, all fitted to the brass pivot rod.

Hopefully Crying

Happy building
