JohnP Hi John, I was able to pick up Issue 9 from my local newsagent in Waikiki yesterday without any dramas. So I am not sure what the problem is in your area. Maybe the inclement weather on Wednesday has delayed delivery to Mandurah? Regards, Adam

I have been looking through builds and posts but have found nothing  Hi Ted You'll find if you glued the angle piece to the stern section as was instructions that the top of the angle piece is within the line on rear of stern that you will eventually need to sand to shape. If you use a saw or snips at the stern cut away right against the base board then cut into the angle piece from the top on an angle from say the middle till you get to bottom of cut stern piece. It should then come away. You'll need a dremel head to cut into the angle piece as your saw will not get in there. You could also perhaps use a needle file to do similar. As far as rest of separation re rib frames if you look underneath you'll see where rib frames finish and a section with a gap running across. just cut below planking and into that gap so you end up with a little waste on top of rib frames as per my pic of separation. See my pic of separation and you'll see the remainder of the angle still stuck to stern which I have now sanded away with the rest of unwanted material. Hope that is of help to you. Seems he forgot where it was. George, I've ordered the paints from Float a Boat. Seems there's a lot of people in Oz doing SotS as Rhonda is snowed under with orders. Many thanks for the info. Hi John That's good to hear you got issue 9 ok. Re paints; The other supplier is still out of stock going by their web page and they didn't reply to my inquiry emails so good we got onto Float A Boat. By the way Float A Boat do carry lots of other items regarding planking, tools and accessories. I ordered a plank crimper as well and got it the other day. So if there are other items you night need outside of paints give them a query and most likely they will have. They will eventually have all they carry on their web page so they told me. Pic attached in case you're wondering what a plank crimper is. Only $AU12.95 plus p+h. I got mine sent express post.  Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Have now sanded off waste and painted inside only. Not perfect by any means but OK. Glad to say no paint came through planks on outer so well sealed.   Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Hi George Your ship's boat is looking really good, I started mine today with a lot of nervous trepidation. I've been checking other peoples' builds for this item and finding the problems and then solutions, so hopefully mine will look as good as yours finally. I purchased my planking tool from Stanbridges Perth $12,95. They have a good range of stuff, but don't do the Admiralty paints. They do Humbrol amongst others. Kind regards JohnP

Thanks for your comment re my row boat but having the row boat as good as mine won't be very hard. Good you got planking tool locally. I don't get to town much so prefer via postage. Hi there George..You've done a really good job on the launch mate!! As for the crimper for the planking,I thought they were great to use if you were second planking...First time I've used the crimper..I used to soak and bend the planks using a soldering iron in the past...Looking foreward to seeing the rest of tour build... By the way regarding glossy finish on row boat interior (not intended ) if not wanted easy to use clear matt spray. You can get from art supply stores along with clear gloss spray. Artists find it a real boon because if using oil paints depending on the amount of turps or oil fillers a painting can often end up with parts glossy and others matt when it dries. To get an overall evenness either glossy or matt to suit painting these sprays are used once paint fully cured or dry. It also gives added surface protection where painting can be washed with detergent if fly spotted over time or just dirty from dust. An old painting before and after really shows the effects if these sprays have been used then painting cleaned. Regards George1 Building HMS SOTS

Hi Andy Yes I should have known having done considerable oil paintings in the past and used such sprays as protective coats and for evenness of either matt or gloss finish. These days this material which is crystal clear is guaranteed never to yellow or milk up even after 100 years. Happy to pass on tip. Regards George. Building HMS SOTS
