Hi George and others. I thought I would give an update as the in between work in progress for the Sovereign. This is my other current project showing the completion of the infills and starting the planking. This 350 mm length two mast schooner will be double planked. The first plank is full width all the way and moulded via soaking in water and using a steam iron to work the plank around the bends. I am not very good with plank benders and prefer the steam method. I need to lay 15 planks more either side, and have worked out the proportions from the keel to deck along each 'bulkhead'. I think this will be a good practice run for what I see coming next issue of the Sovereign.

I trust my showing this other project at the saem time as the Sovereign is acceptable.

Hi Marcel. I just read some of your other posts and appreciate your input a lot. I am not yet sure about how I might achieve personal touches but you have given me something to think about. I am sure this will come through on both builds consciously or otherwise.

Found some time to start the skiff with the following results. I am thinking about putting the planks on and using balsa infills for the bow over the coming week but only after a bit of research using the build diary in this forum.

Hi BB, you do not need balsa infills for any part of the launch, using them will likely cause you problems further down the line... I covered the launch quite extensively in my build diary, link below.. Take a look, you may find it helpful....

Hi Grandale, Me again and just reviewed your build from page 8 plus. I can see what you mean about the bow. Thanks for that. I liked the way you finished the skiff off. Very impressed indeed. I will start planking tomorrow (I hope) and report progress.

Found time to do the skiff but looking at this photo...well lets just say it isn't seaworthy Looks like a bit of filler is needed.

Thanks George, My main problem was the bow and getting the planking in line without creating a hump took a bit of work mainly because I hadn't done the forming of the bow supports properly.
My planking was done a little differently to what the instructions will tell me and I had bit of problem on the port side (which is where the planks didn't butt up) due to having to replace one of the planks which then in the reflected in the gaps.

Also the centre planks were slightly off line. I have applied some gap filler and here is the result. I am not worried about the finish as this will be airbrushed
