OK I maybe being a bit stupid here but in the second delivery instructions you assemble the clutch etc. and attach it to the main engine block. Then there is a 'preview' bit about inking the clutch part to make the detail stand out more but it says this is to be shown later?
My question is - Am I jumping the gun and we will have to remove this piece in a future stage or is it being assumed that people will be 'saving up issues' to build at a later date?
I'm guessing that it's just using a permanent black pen, like one for writing on blank CD/DVD, to achieve the effect.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I thought I'd ask before starting!
Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave, Inking (or wash) is an effect used by many modellers to bring out panel line details in aircraft and figure making so that it gives a more realistic effect rather than something that has no definition. It's a bit like wear and tear on something used. Now inking is not the use of a pen but a very watered down solution of a dark colour, black for example that when applied will run into all the recesses etc. this gives the part applied more definition so that any "hidden" detail stands out from what would normally be a blank canvas... Example here ..... http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=11131
There are many products out there and the official build suggests what to use but for my general Madeleine building I use Citadel wash which is an acrylic based paint also. The beauty of acrylic based wash colours are that if you are not happy with your results then you can rinse under the tap and start again! Hope this helps? Spencer

I see. Thanks for explaining Spencer. I probably won't be doing that - I was just surprised to see the option to do this being shown after the part was assembled in the book instructions. I did have a look at your build diary before posting, as I do before assembling just to make sure something isn't missing (after bad experiences with the DB5!) but couldn't see any reference to it in there, so I thought I'd ask Cheers Dave

The inking process is optional Dave and one that I will not be doing for the official build but if anyone wishes to see more examples of the effect then feel free to ask and I will be more than happy to assist.. Spencer

Great guide. Might look into this for the build. It definitely adds a lot of detail Building: RB7 Nitro / Senna MP4/4 Finished: McLaren MP4/23 Brad.
