Have cut oar rowlocks on Row Boat and seeing I now have Admiralty Paints I thought I'd try painting the anchor for visual effects. I wasn't going to paint anchors till all ready (4) but I'm pretty sure I will be able to match them all.  Regards George. Building HMS SOTS

Issue 10 constructed. Bowsprit dry fit only then put away till after planking. Rest of items being keel strakes have been put away with heavy book on top to keep flat till used after planking. In the long photo of false keel and ribs a lot are dry fitted so not absolutely square as will be when glued. One thing I can't understand is why give us keel strakes in this issue that can't be used till after planking but could have given us some more launch items instead.  I understand the strakes are a continuation of the bowsprit but not required for quite some time.     Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Cannot explain the logic for that I'm sorry. However your build is still looking good for your build. I plan to do my bow sprit over the weekend, and I am going to redo the skiff so I have two of them. Right now I have to fly to Sydney but back tomorrow midday.

Hi Brex Thanks for compliments. Did you purchase a second 8 issue ? To make second row boat/ launch/ skiff. Are you intending on putting both on the deck ? There isn't a second one is there in later issues? Regards George Building HMS SOTS

Looks great George.
I'm seeing nearly all builders go with Balsa infills. It has put me in a quandry.... Do I or Don't I? I think I can plank w/o the infills. It'll just be a very slow, metilculous process which I'm fine with. hmmmm........ I'll be certainly thinking about it until I do it.

Hi Michael Thanks for compliment. It's appreciated. Regarding balsa infills SOTS it certainly isn't mandatory. More a help especially at bow and stern if not elsewhere. Also glue will stick to the balsa too as well and helps re laying planks. Of course there is quite a lot of work in doing a full balsa infill as well as a lot of sanding. Some of the older members who have infilled mention that it makes the whole keel area feel really solid. However if you decide to infill more than bow and stern wait till first decking on as no room for rib adjustment into decking slots if hard against balsa. I intend to fully infill once first decking on. Hope that might give you some thoughts. Regards George Building HMS SOTS

The full length of the ship is now revealled. She certainly takes up some real estate on the workbench.

Hi If any long time experienced members look in can you enlighten me on query below; I noticed one build where the Bowsprit has been infilled with balsa. Is there any logic for this as there is for infill of false keel? Or was it to stop warping of Bowsprit having to be put aside for considerable time re planking. I have no idea just what is going to be glued to the Bowsprit that is helped by a balsa infill. If there is a good reason then I have plenty of time at the moment waiting on kit issues to infill the Bowsprit and would do so. Building HMS SOTS

Hi George, I didn't make this up until it was required to be attached to the bow... nor did I use any infills for this section.. Hi Alan. Appreciate you looking in and your input on this query. From the pic you supplied I can't see any reason to infill the Bowsprit. There looks to be "Bling" to go right where bottom of balsa infill would be in the way. hi, no that particular infill,was a mistake by the builder, he ended up removing it(I think) Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

There is no need to infill this section but I would recommend you store the parts flat until needed and not put them together until you get to the stage of actually fitting to the bow..... Keep doing what you are doing, you are doing a great job..... .. Will be following your progress with interest.... Regards Alan
