Does anyone know what the sanding sealer Cornwall models sells is made of? I just used some & cleaned my brush with brush cleaner & it started falling apart.  i clean brushes in soapy water as advised by man in model shop where i purchased it from  u've just found out the reason why must be a chemical reaction

the sanding sealer cornwall sell is cellulose based,so cneeds cleaning with painters thinners,then washed in soapy water. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

As soon as I have used my brush, I rub washing up liquid into it (neat)then rub with my fingers & wash under a warm tap.
I keep the same brush for the job.

Was it a cheap brush ? I used sanding sealer and clean the brush with cellulose thinners and have never had that problem.

Cellulose based....that would explain it,brush cleaner not suitable for that. No the brush wasn't cheap,that's what has annoyed me,I bought a brush specifically for it thought I would splash out for a good one. sanding sealer and clear dope keep the same brush for it let the brush go hard next time you use the brush let it sit in the tin for about 15 minutes the brush will be soft again and ready for use

just a quick stupid question, what is sanding sealer actulaay for?? i guess sealing before sanding, or is it after? and what does the sealing actually do? cheers steve

The jury's out on it's use. Some say it's an aid to sanding and other that it seals the grain of the wood to take the chosen finish better. This link is usefull reading but it's really up to the individual. http://www.sydneywoodtur...shing/sandingsealer.html

pesonaly I dont use it. A good fine sandpaper and thining the paint and giving a couple of coats lets the grain stand out. I have not had any problems yet.

Nor are there any instructions on how to use it? Is it put on neat by hand, does one add water to it or what? I understand it's use, but not how to apply it.
Can anyone put me straight.

TIS use it stright from the tin by brush or cloth watch it messy on hands and stickey

tiswas cellulose sanding sealer is used like an undercoat of paint,you can thin it with thinners,this is used mainly on balsa(fixedwing or gliders.)because balsa is very spongy so the sanding sealer was produced,we used to make our own sanding sealer with dope sawdust and thinners. that's all thats in it.very smelly and very inflammable. I used to make allot of remote control airplanes, due to the balsa's ability to sap the living C#*p out of adhesives and paint, a coat of sanding sealer usually strengthens (Hardens, but only lightly) the wood you treated, creating a better area for paint, glue or coverings. However it is lethal on the respiratory system, so only use in a well ventilated area, or the wife will beat the living **** out of you Ship Builds on the go
