Hello Forum members,

I signed up simply because of the McLaren MP4/4 Senna kit. I will be posting my order very soon. But I had a question on how long this would take to ship, and if there is a possibility of shipping all parts at once. Surely better for the distributor.

I'm US based ex-pat Brit. I used to model Tamiya kits, and have been an avid fan of F1 for over 30 years.

Cheers,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Welcome!

I do not think that the MP4/4 will be available all in one go. At this point, it is only available in a 20 month subscription.

I have a friend in the UK, who like you is a lifelong F1 fan. he just got his first bits, and he is bowled over by the quality. It will be a wait, but Oh! so worth it!!

As Mark says, it is a HOT kit and I'm sure in demand especially after Senna's bio being broadcast on TV. Who knows how many people have been drooling over it (ME) before it just became available in the USA 2 weeks ago. I placed my order on the 8th and haven't received shipment notification yet. I would hope once they have the subscription they would maintain adequate stock to support regular shipments. I'll be posting a build diary when mine start coming.

As for glues...I would sure use what is recommended for different plastics. Some glues just stick things together while others partially melt the plastic so it's fused together.

Does anyone know if the USA edition of the kit will include the tobacco sponsorship decals or do we have to order those separately?

It is EXTREMELY doubtful the kit will have them. Our anti tobacco laws are even more stringent I believe. They are available though!

Senna Pack #1 arrived today!! My shipping box was also a bit beaten up. Thankfully the parts are well protected in the blister packs.

I would like to know what the small tube of adhesive is. OK..I see that elsewhere it is described as plastic "weld" suitable for gluing the ABS parts. I'll be using Testors cement for the HIPS. I have medium Jet CA for the die cast.

I need to finish up an N Scale train depot that's on my bench first! Should get that out of the way on Friday.

Received the first pack yesterday and was a bit nervous because the shipping box was pretty mangled. Thankfully the kits and magazine were not damaged as well. Really excited to work on this. It's going to be a long 20 months though.

G-funk, you'll be pretty surprised at how fast the 20 will go! You'll also get really, really good at estimating shipping time with all the variables thrown. (Closed roads due to snow, forest fires, the mail truck being swept aloft by a tornado while crossing Kansas...

Mine has shipped as well. I have a buddy in the UK who is going full carbon decals. ( hiya Grant!!) That will look superb.

Well...pack 1 went together quickly and uneventfully. I think the most tedious bit was sanding the tire tread area flat and smooth.
So, that gets shelved for a month. I have D51 components arriving at the 2 week mark halfway between McLaren parts. Also expecting an Ebbro Lotus Type 49 and Pocher 1931 Alfa Romeo in the mail soon.

Hi,

Finally got some time to order the kit today, but when I called the 800 number I get a message saying to call back during regular business hours even though it's currently 3pm in Arizona (4pm central time). Guess I'll have to wait until Monday, and call in the morning?

Couple questions, I noticed today that the first month is now free when you order, will that still hold when I order over the phone? Again, tried to do it online but for whatever reason order never completes (I use a mac if that helps).

Then I read on the product page that "All original livery decals are included in the kit, including the banned tobacco decals." Is this true? That would be nice, saving me from having to order decals to complete the car.

Thanks, and hope to actually be able to order by Monday.

It is indeed true that the OH! so terrible Marlboro decals will be with the kit. DeAgostini cannot advertise them however, or show them, due to the regulations surrounding the Tobacco settlement. (as I understand it...)

It does look a bit naked without them, doesn't it?

I'll forward your issue with the Website hanging. (again). If you could PM me the pertinent details, as well as any error messages your 'puter might show, it will be a tremendous help!

Thanks!

That's great news about the US kits including the tobacco decals! I've just cancelled my Hobby Link Japan order.

Its only just been agreed, though unlikley the official build will show them in place because of tobacco advertising laws etc

I recently tried to order from the website and couldn't place the order. I had seen the commercial and promo code "senna" to get the first month free (just S&H). I did try calling to order and the person I spoke to was not able to enter the promo for the first month free - bummer. As a cautious person when calling since he was unable to use the promo code and not positive in when I would receive my first shipment I guess I need a little confidence since I am buying this for my disabled-vet one-handed husband and this is an investment (huge Senna fan).

I ran one of the heartbleed detection tools from CNET (the SSL tools) and it didn't pass, so I am guessing there may be an issue there. It is nerve-wracking to have all the information sitting there and the order trying to process and simply spinning.

Any of your thoughts/help is appreciated.
