Pack 13 contains Stages 48-51

Stage 48 - Contains the left (port) engine side frame and engine frame parts.

Test-fit the engine frame side with frame 11, then glue it in place.

Cut the engine front frame from the fret (also remove the circle from within the centre of the frame), then smooth any splinters.

Apply glue to one of the ends of the engine frame (not both), then fit the front frame and hold position until the glue has set.
When set, check that the non glued side can be parted from the frame, (this is to allow the placement of frames within the engine framework later on). Note that both side of the engine frames will slightly taper inwards towards the nose, be sure that the taper of the assembled engine frame is set eqially on both sides and that there is no pull to the left of right.

Remove the four reinforcements from the fret that came with this stage and sand any splinters smooth. Then glue the reinforcements into the slots within frame 11.

Carefully store the remaining parts.

Stage 49 - Contains a nose reinforcement fret and wooden strips.

Take the left wing aileron parts fret that came with Stage 45 and extract the part shown, then sand any burrs or splinters.

Position and glue the bracket at the end of the aileron spar as shown.

Now remove the largest rib from the aileron fret. Sand any burrs or splinters, then glue it up against the end of the spar and the bracket. Then beforre the glue has set, test-fit the aileron into place up against the rear spar of the left wing, and adjust the angle of the frame before the glue sets.

Remove the small bracket from the fret. Sand any burrs or splinters, the glue it into place at the other end of the aileron spar.

Remove smallest rib from the fret, sand any burrs or splinters, then glue it into place at the end of the spar, resting against the bracket. Test-fit the aileron into place up against the rear spar of the left wing, and adjust the angle of the frame before the glue sets.

Stage 50 - Contains frames 12, 13 and 14.

Take the aileron fret from the previous stage and identify and label the remaining ribs.

Remove all frames from the fret and smooth any burrs or splinters.

Retrieve the aileron from the previous stage. Fit and glue ribs A - E into the aileron spar as shown. Ensure each is set at a rignt angle to the aileron spar.

Take the nose framework assembly, test-fit then glue frame 12 onto the fixed side of the frame but NOT to the 'free' side of the nose frame.

Repeat the process to fit frames 13 and 14 into place, Do Not yet glue the frames to the 'free' side of the nose frame.

Stage 51 - Contains a reinforcement fret, frame 15 and reinforcment beams.

Smooth the surface of frame 15 then fit and glue it to the fixed side of the assembly.

Lift the free side of the assembly and apply glue to the sides of all of the the frames and at the nose, then press the free side into place up against the frames, hold both sides together with bands or clamps until the glue has set.

Remove the two reinforcements shown from the fret received with Stage 49. Sand the edges of the two pieces smooth.

Apply glue to the indicated notches in the five frames, then place the longer reinforcement into the notches, and position up against the outermost part of the frames.

Take the shorter reinforcement and glue it up against the longer, in the notches of the first and second frames.

Remove the next piece shown from the fret received with this stage. Smooth it with sandpaper, then apply glue to the notches in frames 12 and 13 and then fit the reinforcement into them.

Store any unused parts for later use.

Pack 14 contains Stages 52 - 55

Stage 52 - Contains the engine cover frame, lateral struts, engine cover frames 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Retrieve the fret that came with Stage 49 and extract all the remaining parts and smooth them
with sandpaper.

Apply glue to the notches on the engine frames, then fit the longer reinforcement into the notches.

Now extract the second and third reinforcement from the fret received with Stage 51. Smooth them with sandpaper, then check the fit of each into the positions shown (both differ), when happy with the fit glue them in place.

Glue the remaining reinforcement into the notches in the middle of the frames.

Remove the half-frames A, B and C from the fret from Stage 51 and smooth them with sandpaper.

Test-fit, then glue the three half-frames into the notches at the front of the engine framework.

Carefully store the remaining parts.

Stage 53 - Contains engine cover frames 2 & 3, wooden strips and pin-nails.

Use a razor saw to carefully cut the ends of the straight sides of the middle frames of the front fuselage assembly to remove them, then smooth the cuts with a file.

Remove the two nose reinforcements from the fret that came with Stage 48 and smooth any splinters. Then test-fit and glue both reinforcement pieces into the points indicated on the nose framework.

Take the 1mm brass wire (Stage 43) and the right side of the cockpit interior made in Stage 44.

Cut and shape pieces of brass wire, then glue them onto the panel as shown.

You'll be shown how to paint the panel at a later stage, for now carefully store the panel and the remaining parts until required.

Stage 54 - Contains diecast Leading edge pieces 4, 5 & 6, the Machine-gun cannon and magazine.

Retrieve the engine cover parts from Stage 52 (frames 1, 4 and 5, 6 and 7 and the lateral struts).

Mark the part numbers onto the parts then extract frame A from the fret. Then mark and remove frames 4 (D) and 5 (E) from their fret (received with Stage 52) and sand any splinters smooth.

Position the lateral struts and frame 1 as shown, then glue frames A to E at a right angle in the positions shown between the two lateral sides.

Then take the fret supplied at Stage 53 and extract frames 2 (G) and 3 (F), and glue frames F in position.

Place the engine cover ion top of the nose frame, but Do Not glue. Hold the two parts together – you may find this easier with elastic bands or small clamps – and test-fit frame G in position. It must only be glued to the engine cover and NOT to the nose frame. Adjust if necessary, then and glue it in place.

Retrieve the two reinforcements from Stage 51. Test-fit and glue into place in the notches along the frames.

Retrieve the two reinforcements from Stage 51. Test-fit and glue into place in the notches along the frames.

Remove the two B frames and frame C from the fret received with Stage 52 (shown in Step 1) and glue them into position in frames A and E.

When the glue has set, separate the engine cover fom the nose frame.

Carefully store the engine cover and remaining parts until required.

Stage 55 - Contains diecast leading edge pieces #1, 2 & 3 and a mini awl tool.

Retrieve the cockpit side panel received with Stage 43, and the 2x3mm wooden strip from Stage 42 and a 2x5mm strip from Stage 49.

Cut two lengths of the 2x3mm strip to match those shown in the diagram, then glue them in place.

Now cut and shape pieces of the strips to match those shown in the instructions, as follows:.

Cut five pieces of 2x5mm strip: 20mm, 15mm, 7mm, 8mm and 5mm in length. Use a file and sandpaper, shape the four pieces, as shown. Then glue them on the cockpit side, at the locations shown.

Then cut a 6mm length of 2x3mm wooden strip and an 8mm length. Use a file and sandpaper to shae the pices as shown. Then glue them on the cockpit side, at the locations shown.

Cut six lengths of 1mm brass wire, about 60mm long. Shape the lengths to match the pieces shown in the diagram, then glue them in position.

Carefully store the cockpit panel and remaining parts until required.
