I just received Model Expos new kit release. The Fokker DR1 triplane in 1:16 scale. This is a wood and metal kit that builds into a model with exposed framework.
I will be posting some WIP photos along with a review of the kit for anyone interested.

The wooden hasegawa kit is 1/8. This kit is no where near the quality of the 1/8 kit, but it is also 1/3 of the price.
I have the 1/8 kit too and it is quite similar in build methods.
It comes with a comprehensive instruction manual with lots of pictures and 5 sheets of plans.
Most of the kit parts are laser cut, with some Britannia metal detail parts and brass rods, rubber, cloth and wood.

Is this a similar kit to the hachette partworks that was about some years ago. This was my first "proper" build. There was an option to either cover the model or leave the ribs and skeleton exposed. I opted for the latter. seemed a shame to cover up all the hard work on the framework. This model has been suspended from the ceiling in my "man cave" for a few years and I am now considering the Sopwith Camel from Model Expo Piccy attached GilShapley attached the following image(s): Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Hi Gil, I think the one in your pic is based on the Hasegawa 1/8 kit. The wingspan of the model expo kit is only 17 inches. It is a 1/16 scale kit
I am waiting for some missing wood to arrive to finish the wings and then I will post more pics.
I have the Model Expo Camel. It is a great kit and if you can build the DR1 to the superb standard you have you will have no problem with the Camel. I also have model expos Jenny kit. That kit to my mind is the best of all the Model Airways kits.
If you want some pics of what comes with the Camel let me know and I will take some.

I built the gatling gun kit.It is really nice Gil. There is quite a bit of clean up on the parts, but it looks pretty nice once finished.
Model Expo has great deals sometimes. You just have to get signed up on their email list and then they will let you know. I got the DR1 free shipping and 20% discount so it only cost me $239.00, but I am in USA.

The DR1 is finished. I do have some WIP pictures if anyone is interested. Overall a nice kit. Some of the fit on the metal parts was awful and the instructions kind of petered off a bit towards the end.

Very nice build indeed. Did you have to laminate the propellor in this kit? Or was it preformed already? Just had the latest email from model expo ands it's save 50% on most items using code OC1 They are showing the 1:16 nieuport reduced from $239.99 down to $119.99. You will still have postage on top and the inevitable import taxes but if anyone is considering purchasing from here the code is valid until midnight on 08/10 Happy Modelling

Thanks guys I will post some WIP. the propeller was made up of 7 separate pieces that were preshaped so all you had to do was glue them together and sand.

how do you post so that the pictures appear in the text rather than having to be downloaded?

You need to resize the image to 640x480, it will then appear in the post

I am building the Expo Camel Kit at present Some of the parts need "tiding up" and some I will replace Some of the castings, one in particular was incomplete and I had to request a replacement. It did arrive but took some 4 weeks to cross the pond. No problems with the replacement from model expo just wish their communication was better The prop for this model comes in three parts of precut ply which would not give the finish I was after so after some thought I have constructed my own version. Using 4mm strips I have created laminations of two different styles, not sure which I will use on the final model but I am getting better at the manufacture The first two I made I sanded the pitch of the prop the wrong way DOH so third time lucky Pictures of the prop attached Must get around to starting a build diary for this one GilShapley attached the following image(s): Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle
