At long last I think I have worked out how to insert my pictures. So here goes with my build diary to date. Like many of you I have returned to model building after many years and am finding it most enjoyable. My launch has been rebuilt several times and the planking repaired and filled more times than I care to admit but now am at the stage of fitting the internal boards and fittings.I will try to add pictures in my next update.

At long last the launch is taking shape and looking like it may be OK after all. I made a basic error in assuming that the "precision cut laser parts" would fit together without any modification required, I now know better. Having eventually sorting out the hull planking and oar slots, I fitted the floor boards, mesh inserts and thwarts. Now realize that I have not fitted the brass strip to the first and 5th thwart as I am awaiting delivery of the round nose pliers from eBay. I should have these by the weekend and will fit both in situ (I hope) As you can see I have started to paint the outside of the hull and again hope to complete this weekend. Then on to the windlass, transom supports, eyebolt and rudder. Painting the oars should not be too difficult but I am a little apprehensive regarding the mast, but we shall see. Below a selection of pictures of the build to date. Sorry if the pics are to big, still trying to sort out the best way to upload them. The paint finish looks awful but is not that bad in the flesh. Hi All, I have been busy building and here are the latest results of the main hull to date, the launch is also undergoing some rectification work and should be ready soon. Any comments welcome but nothing to harsh as it is my first attempt. Happy building to you all CMB[biggrin File Attachment(s): CMB attached the following image(s):

How the hell do you get black paint to stick to the grills? I'm using the official goauch paints for the build but no luck, it just seeps thro and doesn't dry.

I used acrylic grey metal primer thined down so as not to fill in the mesh and the brush was almost dry.It took 2/3 coats then applied the black paint from the Victory set, again the brush was almost dry and applied 2/3 coats. As a point of interest I added 3ml water to the bottle of black paint and this thined it down nicely, also used the same method to the white and ochre paint. Paint still dries very quickly. Hope this helps CMB

Which grey primer did you use and where did you get it from.? I assume that it wasn't a spray as you mentioned using brush.
Cheers

Help wanted. I am about to recommence my Victory build after some 6 months due to some serious surgery and appear to have mislaid/lost the black netting for making the hammock nets. Has anyone any spare netting, I am willing to pay postage ect. Regards CMB

Hi CMB, great to see you back again and hope all the medicals go well! If you have a market near you with any dressmaking shops or stalls check them out - you can buy very similar nylon netting by the yard for mere pennies. If you check out my DelPrado Victory diary you can see it in use. Note though, I mistakenly bought black without realising the real netting is natural rope, not tarred! If you can get a tan or light grey colour you can save having to paint it like me! Hope that helps Robin First wooden ship: The Grimsby 12 Gun 'Frigate' by Constructo Second: Bounty DelPrado Part Works Third: HMS Victory DelPrado Part Works 1/100 scale Diorama of the Battle of the Brandywine from the American Revolutionary War Diorama of the Battle of New Falkland (unfinished sci-fi), Great War Centenary Diorama of the Messines Ridge Assault Index for the Victory diary is on page 1
