Hi everybody. I've just recently subscribed to the magazine. I'm waiting on a few back issues, so It will be a little while before I've got anything substantial to post. In the meantime I've been looking over some of your builds which are coming along nicely by the way. My plans for this build are a wood finish as much as possible. I'll have to wait a little to make some final decisions as I don't yet have all the issues and parts to work out what I can do. As near as I can tell I'll be able to wood finish the bottom part of the hull with some allowances made for the extra layer of planking. I'll have another look at Tomick's build and get some more ideas. I love the idea of an official build diary, it's going to be a big help.
I'm hoping to get something organised this week to post, even if it's only a little work on the Launch. I'm yet to figure out how to get pictured over from photobucket, as I've never used this method before. Hopefully it's pretty straight forward. I'm finding that building complicated Ships is often easier than using some features on the computer.
Please feel free to comment as I progress.

welcome aboard matey, you won't be disappointed with your choice, btw there is easier way to post pics, just by clicking the attach button, you can post directly from your computer, your pics will need re-sizing to 800x600 or 600x400. which does away with photobucket entirely. good luckBigGrin

Here's some Pictures of some work on the Longboat. I'm hoping for a wood finish on this. I'll see how it goes

Hi Mathew. BigGrin

That's a really good job on the launch.Cool Cool

I see you have different coloured planking to what we had in issues for the launch, unless you've used some from other model? It will look really good if you are going for a stain and varnish rather than painting already having a nice colour base.BigGrin

Keep up the great work. Cool Cool

Regards

George

Matthew,

That is really nice quality, tidy work indeed. I agree with George here. I'd stain it and varnish it. It'll turn out very slick!

Yes George, I used some Chilean Myrtle left over from a current scratch build of a Viking Ship. It has a pinkish brown colour. I also keep a small stock of veneers for odd parts on my models.BigGrin

OK. I've finally been able to get started. The back order arrived last week, so here we go.
I decided to use my usual method with a couple of changes to lay the keel and glue in the Bulkheads. It's quite inexpensive to put together.
it's just a pine board, but I had to pick through a few to get a flat one. It ended up with a slight bend, so I clamped it to the table
I"m using and it's now nice and flat. Then I drew a line down the middle, and glued a piece of 15 by 15 pine straight along the line. Then i clamped some scrap ply between another piece of 15 by 15 to hold the keel straight. The scraps are just in case any gets glued in accidentally. Then it was mark and cut slots so the bulkheads fit down to the bottom of the keel.
After all that It was just a case of gluing in the bulkheads nice and square. The lower deck fitted in nicely, with no adjustments needed. I'm now working on the stern framing and the slot in bulkheads without horns.
I'm happy so far. Everything is fitting together nicely. Ihope you are all having fun with your builds. Matt

It looks like I'm having trouble uploading pictures. They're only uploading as files. I'll see if I can fix this later. I'm stumped for now.

G'day Matt,

Great to see that you are making progress with the build.

As for your picture posting problem, it looks like your picture size is too big. I just checked the properties of the two that you posted today and it looks like they are 1600 x 1200. Hence, they are being presented as individual files and also a larger file size.

The "acceptable" picture size for posting is in the order of 800 x 600 or alternatively 600 x 450. The pictures from your previous posts appear to be 640 x 480, which is why they are being presented as pictures, and not files.

So, I would suggest that you have a go at resizing the pictures.

Regards,

Adam
