Hi Jase

I think for something like this a model shop will not b the best choice as it's a bit of s specialist item.

Could I suggest you investigate marquetry suppliers as a source. Found the following but sure there are others.

http://www.originalmarqu...x=-303&submit.y=-33

The above was given by one of the other forum gentlemen at the start of the SOS build as a source for black wood strip rather than having to paint. I used then and they were very good but sure you can find other suppliers online.

Hope this gets you started. By the way you may have to smash that piggy bank as it looks an expensive wood.

Kind regards

Tony

Many thanks Thanks Tony that is very helpful.

I am toying with the idea of using Ebony to double plank my Warrior rather than paint, think it could just look stunningCool

Hi Jase,
Like Tony, I would recommend the Black Boxwood Stripwood from 'Original Marquety' it's 0.7mm thick and comes in various widths. I have used a lot on the SOTS. It's very Black, plus it sands and cuts very well. It's also reasonably cheap, about £5 for 10 strips 6mm wide. One point worth mentioning is that it shows a more grey colour after sanding, but goes back to jet black after varnishing etc.
They do have some Ebony Strips but they are square, very expensive and nowhere near as black as the Boxwood.
I think it's about £30! for 10 strips of 3mm, plus it's as hard as nails to cut and sand.

Thanks Andy looks a good option although rather than using strips I am hoping to use rectangular plates to emulate the iron plates. just playing with ideas at the moment

A good option would coloured Sheet Veneer, I'm planning to use some red on the SOTS, like the Boxwood it's coloured right through and you can still see the grain.
