I have just been looking at the HMS Surprise section. Anybody who is attempting Victory and may not be reading that section in detail should look at James's Surprise BuildI have just been having a look and it is a really excellent step through for building a wooden ship. I'm sure we can all learn a lot. Thanks to Robert Hudson and Magpie for their surprising discovery. Thats enough puns for one day Mike T

If you actually read my initial post and visited the link I would have hoped that you might have understood why I put it in the Victory section. I thought it was somewhat tucked away in the Surprise section and that the techniques and approach to building a ship would benefit anybody building any 18th/19th centrury period ship not just Surprise. I wasn't 'advertising' any of our builds, just drawing attention to the work of somebody called James who appears to be gifted both as a modeller and with the ability to illustrate his build. Mike T

since leaving the victory build & concentrating on the Yamato i have strayed onto the posts for the victory due mainly to the lack of interaction between us doing the Yamato build (sado i must get a life???mind u theres' only 3 of us & 500+ of u's) i have noticed that there is not as many posts as there was a few weeks ago is this due to the fact that you guys & gals are too busy with the build (hopefully)or as i suspect don't want to post anything incase in wrong place or not relevant specificately to the victory & dont want to be told so i think correspondence between members bouncing ideas of each other, information relevant to the Victory or similar models, dos & donts etc should be encouraged not dismissed as being intrusive i have picked up many pointers from the posts which i am grateful for as had made me think before diving in (sometimes too late) on my computer posts i haven't read are colored red i click on it read it take the information in or dismiss it leaving space in my lonely brain cell for relevant info later on Basicaly I THINK nobody should discourage people making posts relevant or irrelevant to the topic if this post is not in the relevant place TOUGH no apoligises submitted keep the correspondance flowing

Mike T I DISAGREE!!!!!! This is the section for HMS Victory, HMS Surprise has it's own thread, as for using the images for reference or approach, what do you refer too, as it cant be used for the Victory, two different ships, and if people carry on posting all sorts of non related HMS Victory information in this section, before long, we will be swamped with non related HMS Victory build information and the thread will be pointless, it will also cause issues with visitors who are looking for information for our build. Also, isn't it you who usually has a go at other members for double posting information, then tell them they should search the forums rather than just randomly post, so shouldn't that apply in this instance???? To be honest, you can carry on as you want, I have had enough of the site, if you look around lately, the HMS Victory thread is full of non HMS Victory related issues and other build images etc, and when new members post a message, they get attacked by some of the crew here, that's out of order, when it's some of you confusing the thread. Take care David. Ship Builds on the go

David, I think your wrong mate, since I discovered MSW http://modelshipworld.com/phpBB2/index.php I have been watching all manner of builds in the logs on the site and on almost every single one you can pick up ideas and different ways of approaching your own build, I did and very helpful they were mate. Quote:techniques and approach to building a ship would benefit anybody building any 18th/19th centrury period ship Spot on, I would recommend anyone to spend a few minutes a day checking on any model ship form almost any century and you can pick so many ideas, the link that mike posted is another example of see how the basic build is done, yes it's not the Victory but it does provide some valuable information. What I don't understand is why you have gone off on one David, I think the original post has been misunderstood ...again! I've added a non related Victory post here in the past and have not been attacked (yet) anything about building these models is worth adding, which in turn wil be added to the index of topics (now a sticky) post will then be easy to find and its up to the individual to decide if it's worth reading and using in there own build.

Lonestar You're amazing, you slag off other modellers for their contributions, you take issues at others comments, you unwisely consider yourself to be the curator of this website. If you don't like it take your own advise. Alternatively, have a shower, have a beer and stick with us. You were one of the founding voices and it would be sad for you to jump ship. Everyone has a bad day. If you jump ship the Welsh Dragon will bit you in the ass. Now pull strong my hearties; we all live on the lower deck together. Yes, I know this has nothing to do with the building of the Victory but I think we all need support sometme. ArtfulBodger Previous Build: HMS. Bounty

And does it really matter what posts where as long as we can read it and get advice and learn from it!! I am not building Suprise but it is great to see other builds and see ideas for Victory!! Chill out and enjoy the build, and if you dont like the posts, dont read them and dont reply!!

Yes, I know this has nothing to do with the building of the Victory but I think we all need support sometme. Call it what you want, this site is so hypocritical, I can't get over it!!! I for one know of 22 modelers who will not post here in fear of being attacked by the so called seasoned modelers and forum users, they go and post a quick question, only to be jumped on by some of you, telling them the question has already been answered, and that they should look first before posting? so it's ok for you guys to do it, but anyone else can't? as for the threads, so I'm the only one who thinks before long, you will have to spend hours looking for Victory related comments or issues, due to all the other non related build posts issues and comments, you would get peed off if you went on a shop site and clicked Victory static models only to find all other models there with the odd victory one in between, you would probably rip into the site! That's why nearly everything here is categorized, it makes it easier to look for specific topics. As for the mention of the Welsh Dragon, whats that got to do with it? I'm not Welsh, I only live in Wales, I was born in Acton and lived there for 22 years, I only moved to wales as that's where I was stationed, but should that matter? I think not!!! Anyway, do what you want Best wishes David Ship Builds on the go
